Lidl has been approved to open a pub within one of its stores.

The supermarket chain has successfully received approval to open the Tap Room at its Dundonald store in Northern Ireland, allowing customers to enjoy the beer well-deserved after their grocery store.

The TAP room is located behind the supermarket and offers space for about 45 people and the bar area is about six.

According to the court, the TAP room also has a license section. Customers can buy sketch and bottled beer, cider, wines and spirits of alcoholic beverages, which provide products that can be found on the supermarket shelves.

Lidl was originally received by a pub designing permit in August 2020, but the local convenience store operator Philip Russell presented objections to the plans.

The proposed plan concerned the owners of the local lawyer who handed over their licenses, allowing Lidl to take over. According to the Licenses of North Ireland, new alcohol sales licenses cannot be granted unless existing.

On the basis of the decision, the Minister of Justice Colton said, “It may not meet the requirement of licensed facilities in the vicinity because of the lack of its size and food reserve,” the judge said.

“However, this does not mean that Lidl is unable to determine inadequacy.”
