The Golden Bachelor couple Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple’s long-distance relationship isn’t working out for them amid their holiday breakup. The Golden Bachelor season 1 was a hit Bachelor Nation fans like Joan from Gerry Turner’s era The Golden Bachelor stepped into the limelight. Joan had a choice of 24 eligible older men, but eventually narrowed it down to four men. Guy Gansert, Pascal Ibgui, Jordan Heller, and Chock all got hometown dates, but only Guy, Pascal, and Chock made it to Tahiti for the final date with Joan.
Gerry’s pilot season The Golden Bachelor was a fan favorite until he and his co-star Theresa Nist announced their split just three months after getting married. Joan became engaged to Chock, but made it clear that she was in no rush to get married, but wanted to take her time and build her and Chock’s foundation. However, it looks more and more like Joan and Chock’s foundation is shaky as they enter the real world together in a long distance relationship.
Joan & Chock’s Golden Bachelorette Trip
Chock was Joan’s forerunner throughout the show
Chock won Joan her first one-on-one date, and the pair went to Disneyland. They enjoyed their day together immensely as they got to know each other and found that they agreed on many things they wanted for the last years of their lives. Chock had to go The Golden Bachelor suddenly when his mother died and he had to take care of her affairs, but he came back. Chock was Joan’s obvious forerunner throughout the season, as they seemed to connect and have a crush on each other from their first date.
Chock managed to get into Joan’s heart with his persistence and by letting all the walls down enough to make Joan feel like she was all in. Jordan and Pascal both had their walls up, which worried Joan and eventually led to their exit from the show. In Tahiti, Chock and Joan only grew closer, prompting Joan to tell her only option left, Guy, that her heart belonged to someone else. At the final rose ceremony, Joan and Chock said I love you to each other, and Joan accepted Chock’s proposal (between Bachelor Nation.)
The main criticism of Chock from another The Golden Bachelor men were it he was possessive of Joan and obviously relentless in his pursuit. During a group bowling date, Chock barked at Joan and wouldn’t let her leave his side, upsetting the other men on the date. After the show, the incident even prompted Pascal to call Chock a “Stalker” in the comments, he has since apologized.
How Joan & Chock said their relationship would work after the show
They want to live together
Joan and Chock did not go public with their engagement until after the final rose ceremony episode. The Golden Bachelor season 1 was filmed in July 2024 and aired from September to November. Because of this, Joan and Chock had to keep the result of the season and their relationship a secret for several months. After the show, Joan and Chock were able to do the interview rounds and shed some light on their connection.
Joan is from Maryland and Chock is from Kansas, so their relationship is long-distance in nature. One of the most important questions they received was about their future plans for navigating the trip. But they seem to have figured things out as they agree on a settlement.
“We know we’re going to spend time in Maryland and Kansas, but then we have this really fun plan because we’ve both always dreamed of—and we’re finally at this weird point in our lives to make that dream come true—to live in a big city, and in particular, we’ve always wanted to live in New York. So Chock surprised me and said, “I want us to go find a place.”
Joan and Chock said they would both venture to each other’s home states to spend time with their loved ones and reunite each other with their families. Plus, Joan and Chock’s NYC Home Buying Plans mean just that they intend to minimize the impact of their long-distance relationship and try to spend as much time together as possible.
Joan & Chock spent two weeks apart
What distance means
However, Joan and Chock’s plan to mitigate the long distance didn’t work out well. Joan did an Instagram video with Chock where he revealed that they had just spent two weeks apart over the holidays. Two weeks is a long time for a couple not to see each other, and it speaks to the stickiness brought by their ski association. Ideally, Joan and Chock want to spend all their time together, but they have separate lives in different states. Reuniting their lives doesn’t seem to be as easy as they imagined considering their vacations from each other.
Although absence makes the heart grow fonder, Joan and Chock don’t have much time to spare in their later lives. Two weeks without seeing others can be a sign of things to come if they are realistic. It is not possible for either of them to travel often because they have such busy family lives. Moving to New York is positive, but it doesn’t detract from the fact that Joan and Chock have distance as a troubling factor their relationship.
