Who is Michael Smith?

Michael Smith is a 33-year-old darts player from St Helens, Merseyside, England.

Smith won his first major title, the Grand Slam of darts in 2022, and has been runner up at the PDC World Championship (2019), World Matchplay (2019), The Masters (2020) and the Premier League (2018).

Family man Smith loves to share his life with wife Dagmara and two sons to his 80,000 Instagram followers.

Michael lives on a converted farm with his family and pets.

He is the current PDC World Darts champion.

Smith reached the final before in 2019 and in 2022, but lost 7-3 to Van Gerwen and Peter Wright respectively.

But in 2023 Smith brought darts home as well as the £500,000 top prize.

In one of the most spectacular matches ever witnessed at Ally Pally, Bully Boy became world champion with a 7-4 victory over Michael van Gerwen.

A teary Smith said: “This is amazing. I don’t want to get into the crying emotions but Michael let me off.

“I took a chance I didn’t deserve. I want to apologise to Michael, I have been in that position before.

“I wanted to give the crowd what they deserved, they got a magical nine and it was good. Sporting memory, this is my greatest ever,

“I knew I would be world champion one day. I want to take over this sport. I’m so relieved I took my chances.”

Smith has won around £1million prize money during his career.

He is now another £500,000 up after his final win over Van Gerwen.

Bully Boy has spoken about the importance of winning tournaments and prize money to buy properties, one of which he has converted into a farm.

He said: “Even a year ago, I’d given up.

“But we’d just bought a new house and the money I shell out every month on mortgages, I can’t afford to give darts away and lose matches.

“If I miss mortgages, we’re out on the streets. We are homeless. I knows it adds added pressure, but it’s keeping me focused.

“I have to keep ready. It has been showing what I have been working on for the last 12 months has worked.”
