Iain’s first mistake was letting a guest drift dangerously far while paddling. Nathan and the guest got caught in a strong current and were unable to paddle back to the boat. The situation escalated when no one was there Mustique found that they had not returned. Iain had told Gael to take a break while the other deck hand, Joe, was in the water on a jet ski. Finally the catamaran picked up Nathan and the guest – they went back Mustique.

The memorable and iconic Sandy reacts harshly to the incident, placing the blame squarely on Iain. As the Bosun, he should have overseen the water activities and made sure all guests were accounted for. He said the rescue of the stranger on another boat got the crew “looks like amateurs.” The incident put Iain’s management style under greater scrutiny.

Iain’s poor communication caused the crew to flounder on a beach day

His lead threatened to ruin the day for crew and guests

Another failure for Iain Below deck, the Mediterranean Sea Sandy went unnoticed, but it strained her relationship with the other deckhands. The crew planned a beach day with games and a picnic lunch for the charter guests. The deck crew was responsible for preparing the beach before the guests arrived. Sandy told Iain to settle on the beach and then return to Mustique. Iain answered in the affirmative, but he misinterpreted Sandy’s instructions.

Iain caused an even bigger disaster when he didn’t say he was on his way back to the beach with the guests.

Instead of helping with the installation, Iain dropped the deck crew on the beach with a huge amount of stuff. and offered no help in transporting everything to the site. Instead, he returned immediately Mustique as the deck crew rushed. They fell behind on their preparations and Iain caused an even bigger disaster when he didn’t say he was on his way back to the beach with the guests. The guests arrived later before everything was arranged, much to the confusion of the crew. Joe criticized Iain, saying that “no leadership at all.”

Iain was also unable to adequately plan the guests’ beach games as he believed that the guests would plan the events themselves. He even discouraged Gael when he tried to get ready. This added another stressor to the overworked crew. Fortunately for Iain, his team covered for him without exposing Sandy to his faulty leadership. Although he escaped discipline for his carelessness, the beach day turned the tables on Iain from the crew. Their attitudes changed considerably, and they were suddenly wary of taking instructions from someone who had acted so thoughtlessly.

Iain has not received feedback

His failure to learn from his mistakes means he has little opportunity to improve

Iain’s mistakes would not have been as damaging if he had taken responsibility and tried to change his ways. Instead, he ignored the criticism and showed no signs of growth. Brushing off the irreplaceable Aesha’s attempts to guide her, she was dismissive of Gael when she expressed her concerns. This attitude makes Iain a villain territoryy. He seems to have no qualms about making life difficult for the deck crew with his actions, while avoiding acknowledging their own shortcomings.

Although their interactions thus far have been cordial, he has not built the close bonds seen between other deckhands and housekeepers.

Iain’s role as a villain is further strengthened by his lack of close relationships within the crew. Although their interactions thus far have been cordial, he has not built the close bonds seen between other deckhands and housekeepers. This leads to Iain becoming isolated, especially as his attitude pushes his co-workers further away. As the crew becomes more skeptical of his leadershiptheir respect for him diminishes.

Although Below deck, the Mediterranean Sea it’s still early in the season, Iain’s repeated mistakes and lack of responsibility do not bode well. If he doesn’t follow Sandy and the crew’s advice, he will further alienate himself from the rest of the cast or even get fired. Iain must swallow his pride and admit his mistakes if he wants to escape being labeled as the villain of Season 9.
