Controversial Sailboat below deck First Officer Gary King revealed his desire to become a captain one day, and I think his aspiration and lack of responsibility prove that his ego is broken. I’ve watched the whole thing Below decks franchise eagerly since Below Deck premiered in 2013, and they have expertise in all the spinoffs. I am familiar with all the drama on and off the screen, and Sailboat below deck and Gary has a lot of it. Sailboat below deck season 5 recently premiered and saw Gary’s return for his fourth consecutive season.

Gary will also be joined by Captain Glenn Shephard at the helm of Parsifal III and Daisy Kelliher as Chief Stew for her fourth consecutive season. Gary and Daisy are both 36 years old and, apart from the captains, some of the oldest actors on the show. BDSY season 5 has been mired in controversy over Gary’s behavior on and off the show, and the full season debut was apparently delayed because of it. However, Gary is always there this season and doesn’t let his bad reputation get him down as he looks to reach new heights, which I think is a contradiction in terms.

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows you can stream or watch right now.

Gary has a checkered history in BDSY

He’s always been an Ornery Playboy

I’m convinced that Gary is a lifelong playboy because his antics with the ladies haven’t changed a bit from season to season. Gary has been the most famous ladies man as I have seen him enter several boating events in just one season. He has hurt several women’s feelings, put his hedonistic ways before work, and has no respect for anyone but himself in my opinion. Gary intervenes in crew drama with selfish tricksand I know that his reputation has been ruined by his conduct.

There have been specific occasions in Gary’s bad character playboy shows when he stirred the pot in Daisy and engineer Colin MacRae’s budding romance in Season 4 when he revealed to everyone that he had slept with Daisy. In the same season, she embarked on a boat trip with Mads Hererra, with whom she claimed she wanted a committed relationship, but asked him out and was embarrassed by her alleged period when they met. These situations and several similar displays of behavior have soured Gary in my opinion BDSY viewers.

Gary has been accused of sexual misconduct

Which Gary has denied

In addition to his Playboy fame, Gary has a serious accusation against him. At the beginning of filming BDSY season 4 in summer 2022, Below decks makeup artist Samantha Suarez claimed that a drunken Gary trapped her in his hotel room and physically tried to stop her from leaving by grabbing her. Gary denied the allegations of sexual misconductand Bravo apparently backed him up, saying they are investigating the allegation and “measures were taken based on the results.”

Gary went on to blast Samantha’s accusations and her public scrutiny on social media, but then deleted the comments.

“It’s so strange, it’s also so far from the truth. He always wanted a platform and unfortunately I’m the unlucky target.”

Gary obviously couldn’t find anything wrong with his behavior and I think that’s sick and prove that he can do no wrong.

Gary would not make a good captain

Gary is not a good leader

in Bravo‘s In BDSY Season 5 Episode One, Gary spoke in an interview about his interest in becoming a captain.

“I want to be a captain one day and train people in all conditions. So I’m going to use this to prove that I’m a good leader.”

I know Gary would make a terrible captain. I’ve seen him talk down to his crew, try to steal women for his subordinates, bend his power, and generally just be a jerk. In my opinion, Gary has nothing but bad personal qualities that would not lead to the position of captain. I am convinced that Gary would be an ineffective leader who is not respected by his crew.

Gary has no responsibility

& Can’t see his mistakes

Another major flaw I see in Gary that should prevent him from ever being worthy of being a captain is that he doesn’t take responsibility for his actions and rejects blame. I’m sure Gary never sees his own faults and acts in his own best interests in everything he does.

To me, all of Gary’s shortcomings prove not only that he was never fit to be a captain, but that his ego is broken.

Despite all the surrounding negativity Sailboat below deck‘s Gary, Bravo decided to keep him and continue his bad behavior. I think this could mean that viewers might even see him in the role of Captain one day, which would be a big mistake. Based on the online backlash I’ve seen from his Season 5 appearance, Gary is alienating viewers, and the spinoff is becoming a train wreck because of it.

Sailboat below deck airs Mondays at 9:00 PM EDT on Bravo.
