It’s been a while since we first caught wind of the fact that we’d be getting an IKEA bang in the centre of London, but now it finally has an official opening date. On May 1, 2025 Londoners will be able to stroll over to the giant new site for some furniture shopping and meatballs.
IKEA opens up at the old Topshop building after a three-year project of upgrades on the Grade II-listed building at 214 Oxford Street.
What can we expect at the new IKEA on Oxford Street?
Of course, any length of wait for those famous IKEA meatballs in the centre of London is going to be worth it in the long run, but there’s plenty more for shoppers in London to check out too. You can expect the classic IKEA setting across three floors of the seven-storey buildingwhich will include a market hall of furnishing accessories to check out those ready-made roomsets for inspiration.
Customers will also be able to head to their planning hub by appointment for one-on-one consultations with home furnishing experts to kit out houses in style. There will also be a giant Swedish deli on-site for customers to sit in 130 spaces to tuck into their classic meatball dishes with mashed potato or their iconic 75p hot dogs.
On the lower floor, you’ll also be able to sift through more than 3,500 home furnishing items and small furniture that you’ll be able to pop home with on the Tube with the classic blue IKEA bags. For anything bigger, you can also arrange for home delivery in-store.
Speaking on the opening, Peter Jelkeby, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer at IKEA UK said, “Whether a local Londoner or a tourist passing through, IKEA Oxford Street aims to inspire home dreams for everyone – offering beautifully designed, functional furnishings at prices affordable for as many people as possible, ensuring visitors leave with ideas and solutions that make everyday life at home a little better”.
IKEA Oxford Street opens for the first time on May 1, 2025, and you’ll find it at 214 Oxford Street.
