This is not a drill. IKEA has officially opened its first-ever standalone London restaurant, launching in Hammersmith, West London, next door to its IKEA Hammersmith store. The first of its kind to open on the UK high street, the restaurant has taken over what was formerly a Wasabi, seating 75 diners across a bright and spacious dining room.

Naturally, the brand is serving up its famous meatballs for hungry customers to enjoy whenever they fancy. The menu includes meatballs, or vegan-friendly ‘plant balls’, served with mashed potatoes, peas, cream sauce and lingonberry jam.

Further items include fish and chips with peas (£6.95), salmon with couscous and yoghurt (£6.95), and penne pasta with tomato sauce for just £2.95.

Families will also be able to take advantage of an incredibly good-value kids meal deal which includes pasta with tomato sauce, a soft drink and a piece of fruit for just 95p!

The in-store restaurant opens early doors, serving cooked breakfasts starting from just £2.75. Anyone hungry for a slap-up brekkie on a budget can opt for a small or regular cooked breakfast of bacon, sausages, hash browns, omelette, baked beans and a tomato. The ‘small’ comprises six breakfast items, while the ‘regular’ includes nine.

Market manager Matthew Gould commented on the opening: ‘We know how much our customers love the IKEA restaurant, and we’re excited to celebrate the opening of our very first high street restaurant. Fans of our delicious dishes can recharge during their shopping trip with our famous Swedish meatballs, pop in for a traditional Swedish ‘fika’ break for coffee and a sweet treat, or find an affordable meal for the kids right on the high street.’

To celebrate the opening, IKEA is offering IKEA Family Members £5 off in store when they spend a fiver or more at the restaurant on the same day – vailed until 30 November.
