Iceland plans to double the number of its Food Warehouse stores as part of its nationwide expansion plan.

The frozen food specialist is looking to double the number of its Food Warehouse stores by identifying up to 250 new sites with the help of real estate adviser Mason Partners LLP, who is leading the hunt.

Iceland is looking for sites of at least 10,000 sq ft in retail parks in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Crawley, Brighton, Salisbury and Dundee are locations specifically named by the dealer. In addition, Iceland is looking at sites in the suburbs of London, Manchester, Glasgow and Newcastle.

First launched as an “experiment” in 2014, Food Warehouse stores are typically located in retail parks and are approximately three times the size of traditional Icelandic stores.

In 2021 Iceland boss Richard Walker stated that Food Warehouse had become the frozen retailer’s primary focus for growth and expansion after the sister company outperformed its core supermarkets.
