Goldies landed in Kingly Court, Soho, in August and is already buzzing with regulars. With a focus on wood-fired cooking, it offers an irresistible menu of dishes filled with rich, smoky flavours.

I was excited about the live fiery show. The restaurant has a very relaxed atmosphere, but don’t be fooled – the food is top notch! The open kitchen takes center stage, giving diners a chance to watch their meals being prepared over the fire.

The menu has a variety of small and large plates, perfect for sharing. I would recommend a small plate, a skewer, two mains and a side of French fries for two people.

A main course of fries is enough for one person, but I would recommend you also order a small plate, skewers or salad as they are delicious

I started with two small plates, which start at £4. The padron pepper has a simple but satisfying flavor; their natural smokiness shines through without the need for any sauces.

One of their best sellers is the challah bread with homemade hummus; everyone ordered it! The hummus was one of the best I’ve had, and you really can’t go wrong with fluffy warm bread.

They also offer a range of skewers, ranging from £7 to £12. Be aware that they are a small plate; each dish comes with only one skewer.

The tiger prawns and chorizo stands out for its perfect balance of smokiness and spice, but it’s a bit pricey. For a more affordable choice, oyster mushrooms offer a similar depth of flavor, making it a delicious and budget-friendly option.

For the main course, the roasted chicken with smoked yogurt and pickles is a must try. The chicken has a tender texture and mouth-watering smokiness, and the sweet pickles are a great addition.

The unexpected star of the show, however, is the pumpkin with grilled onions and pesto. I was skeptical at first, but was convinced by the staff that it was a bestseller and a must try, and I’m glad I listened – the combination of flavors was absolutely phenomenal, I don’t know how to describe it.

The roasted green bean salad with burrata, walnuts and figs was also a surprise, with its simple yet harmonious mix, proving that sometimes the simplest dishes can be the most satisfying!

Main courses start from £11, while salads start at £7, making it affordable for those looking to indulge without breaking the bank.

The only side dish that Goldies serves is their signature twice-fried hand-cut fries, and it goes perfectly with any dish, especially the chicken. A generous portion for two for just £5. Don’t forget to try their dip – I became obsessed with the Brazil BBQ.

If you’re in central London and fancy some incredible food that doesn’t break the bank, Goldies is the place to go. You’ll leave not only satisfied, but with a smoky scent that clings to your clothes, a reminder of the exceptional meal.
