The content creators rated the breakfast 9 out of 10

Two diners who visited one of Gordon Ramsay’s central London restaurants were left feeling “annoyed” when they saw the final bill. Content creators Gary Hanna and Danny Macklin made their way to The River Restaurant at The Savoy to sample its breakfast menu.

Gary, who is known as Gary Eats online, selected the omelette Arnold Bennett priced at £20, named after the Stoke-on-Trent-born author. The writer would request this dish in advance – featuring haddock, parmesan, and comte cheese – before arriving at the restaurant whilst staying at the Savoy Hotel to write his novel Imperial Palace.

Danny, meanwhile, took a more conventional approach, selecting a “quintessentially British” breakfast costing £24. Whilst the Yorkshire native was satisfied with his food, he immediately noticed something frustrating.

In a YouTube video, Danny said: “I don’t care if I’m in The Savoy, if it’s Gordon Ramsay’s, I am not having beans in a pot. Mate, beans belong on a breakfast. When the bacon first came out, I thought it was vegan bacon, like that dog chew stuff, but on closer inspection it looked good. It looked quite nice the bacon and a decent sausage.”

Nevertheless, he said that the bacon was “cooked perfect”. Meanwhile, Danny was impressed by Gordon Ramsay’s black pudding, observing: “Up north we have black pudding from Bury and I’ve always said it’s one of the best. That, whatever black pudding that is, that’s probably the nicest black pudding I’ve ever had. That is amazing.”

When it came to the omelette Arnold Bennett, Gary observed: “What I like is that it’s been put under the grill to give it colour. The eggs are really, really soft, so it’s a sort of firm omelette, really cheesy, and lots of haddock. It’s mindblowingly good. Really creamy. That to me is outrageous.”

Danny and Gary also enjoyed the French toast, served alongside maple syrup and orange mascarpone for £15. Danny did, however, point out how the dish proves perfect for “Instagram pictures”.

Gary said: “What really makes it for me is the bread. And then the maple syrup combined with the orange is fantastic, it’s incredibly good.”

Danny remarked: “You’ve got the citrus hit of the orange segment and then the sourness that comes from the peel together with the sweetness of the cream. That is Paddington bear’s dream.” Paddington, created by British author Michael Bond, is famous for his love of marmalade sandwiches. Danny continued: “If he come here, that little bear, this is what he would be having.”

Despite being genuinely impressed by the breakfast, Gary confessed he felt “a little bit annoyed” when the bill arrived. This happened after they discovered their sourdough toast had set them back £9.

Gary said: “I’m saying that’s wrong, I’m a little bit annoyed by that. You should have the toast with the breakfast and with the Arnold Bennett because you need it. That’s a little bit naughty. Change that, add it to breakfast.”

The total bill for Gary and Danny, inclusive of a pot of tea, came to £93. Despite this, both gents rated the breakfast a solid nine out of 10, docking a point for the charge for toast.

The River restaurant includes toast on its menu, priced at £4.50 per serving, reports the Express. The unveiling of Gordon’s latest restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay High, is chronicled in his six-part Netflix series Being Gordon Ramsay. The series launched on the streaming platform last week (Wednesday, February 18).
