Married at first sight Long-time expert Reverend Cal Roberson is unsuitable as a therapist and guide for the show, and his appearance and status in season 18 will affect the season. In season 18, Pastor Cal will be joined by Dr. Pepper Schwartz, who has been on the show since its premiere in 2014, and Dr. Pia Holec, who joined in season 15. Outside of her work Married at first sightPastor Cal is the pastor of his church in Georgia. He is also an author and keynote speaker across the United States

Currently, Married at first sight fans are eagerly anticipating the premiere of season 18 in mid-October after a six-month hiatus. MAFS season 17 was the longest season in the show’s history, airing for nearly six months. The latest season promises mature actors, but also contains twists, such as a couple change and a cheating scandal. In season 18, all three experts remain the same, which is definitely a disadvantage of the season. From my extensive knowledge of the show on and off camera, I believe Reverend Cal was not a suitable alum to go on.

Reverend Cal has been on MAFS since season 4

He is the second longest running specialist

Lifelong‘s Married at first sight expert Pastor Cal joined the show in season 4. Dr. Pepper is the only other expert who has been on the show longer. I can tell that Reverend Cal tries to offer compassionate advice to couples, but his aloof approach and lack of rigor have at times backfired. He’s directed alongside Dr. Pepper, and the two seem to have a solid working relationship.

Pastor Cal tries to keep it real with couples and challenges them to identify their issues. I’ve seen him force couples out of their comfort zones to get closer. He is known as an expert who plays devil’s advocate and offers faith-based advice to the religious. As the only male expert, Pastor Cal provides a different perspective than the other two experts.

Reverend Cal has been criticized by MAFS viewers

MAFS fans don’t think he’s qualified to be an expert

I have noticed that Reverend Cal’s therapy style and views on situations have been poorly received by fans. Many viewers take to social media during and after the seasons to point out the ways in which he is not a good expert on the show. I think Reverend Cal tends to get emotional and harbors contempt for some cast members and couples, which ends up giving her a biased and overly harsh critique when she should be coming from a more supportive approach.

This negative style of his therapy has been noticed Married at first sight fans likewise. Recently, a Reddit thread called “I’m mad at Reverend Cal.” The now-deleted message reminded me of the time MAFS season 15 in San Diego when he told Justin Hall he was too emotional and no “alpha male” enough for his partner Alexis Williams. The direct insult was shocking and cold and did not help the couple in any way.

More in the comments of the post MAFS fans jumped in to comment on their views on Pastor Cal’s “expert” abilities.

“Pastor Cal & Dr Pepper cared, but money, ego and boredom corrupt them. They are simply independent contractors who follow Production’s dictates for pay.”

This assessment resonates with others MAFS viewers and other people offered other perspectives.

“Pastor Cal and the entire production of the show promoted spousal abuse time and time again.”

Pastor Cal is an ineffective expert

He has cheated on many couples

Pastor Cal has always had a say in who gets paired up each season and has made some big mistakes with his pairings. I noticed that The big controversy fans have with Pastor Cal for carelessness in choosing Actorsbecause Reverend Cal and the pundits have chosen many repulsive and dangerous people for the show.

I don’t think Pastor Cal takes the full background, appearance preferences and non-negotiables of each participant seriously enough.

This sloppiness usually ends up with the Cast becoming frustrated and resentful of their partners, when it was really the Experts’ fault for not giving each participant the person they genuinely asked for.

Will Pastor Cal have a negative impact on MAFS Season 18?

The success of season 18 is enough

I’m sure Pastor Cal will stay on Married at first sight being an expert is a big mistake. Viewers already dislike him and the way he conducts his therapy approach, so I know the season already starts with the scorn of the fans. He is no longer suitable for the show and should be replaced in future seasons. However, fans must try to capitalize on his appearance in Season 18 and focus on the positive aspects of the season.
