How Janelle Brown Celebrated First Birthday After Garrison Brown’s Death

Sister wives star Janelle Brown had her first birthday since the tragic death of her 25-year-old son Garrison Brown. Janelle became concerned about Garrison’s mental health after he sent some disturbing text messages. When he couldn’t reach her, he sent his other son, Gabriel Brown, to check on her. Gabriel found Garrison dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Flagstaff, Arizona on March 5, 2024. The unimaginable tragedy irrevocably changed the lives of every member of the Brown family.

Janelle was Kody Brown’s second wife, and Garrison is one of their six children together. After almost 30 years of marriage Janelle ended her spiritual union with Kody during Sister wives season 18. Three of Kody’s four wives left him in the last couple of years – the family was then irretrievably divided. With all her children out of the house, Janelle is alone. Fortunately, she enjoys very close relationships with her remaining five children. Although her first birthday after Garrison’s death was likely deeply painful, Janelle was surrounded by love and support on her special day.

Janelle was born on May 6, 1969 and recently turned 55. The Sister wives the star published an Instagram story to commemorate the event. In one photo, Janelle was presented with a German chocolate cake lit by Happy Birthday candles. According to Janelle, it was baked by her daughter, Maddie Brush, and it was delicious. The photo caption reads in part: “a little red in the face from gardening.” Still grieving her son, Janell tries to spend as much time as possible with her children.

April 10, 2024, which would have been the 26th birthday of the deceased Garrison, To Jane posted a video on Instagram of Garrison enjoying his own cake and showing off his gifts. The post garnered more than 300,000 likesand the caption reads in part “Happy Birthday my dear. We miss you terribly today. It’s hard to believe you’re not here anymore.”

On the same day in May To Jane posted an Instagram photo carousel of his garden, with the text partially reading “I’ll be spending much of the summer in NC with Maddie, Caleb, and the kids, so Maddie and I have been making big garden plans..” Janelle has always enjoyed close relationships with all of her children. While Janelle was on good terms with Garrison before his death, Kody and Garrison were in the middle of a long-simmering Brown family feud. Kody and Garrison were close, but things changed after Kody married Robyn Brown.

The situation worsened during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. Kody and Robyn were cautious about the virus, while some of Kody’s older children were not. Kody argued with Garrison and Gabriel as the boys continued to work and date during the pandemic. They refused to follow Kody and Robyn’s strict rules, so Kody didn’t want to see them. At one point, Kody demanded that Janelle kick her son out of her home. Her refusal led to her decision to leave Kody.

In 2018 TLC sent by a Sister wives clip where Garrison returns home after serving in the Nevada National Guard. He was so excited that he actually ran from the car into the house and fell into his crying mother’s arms. In the video, Garrison tells the producers:I try not to talk about potential deployments or anything like that around him because he has a problem when we’re gone..” The comment is seen in a different light in the context of Garrison’s tragic death.

During the pandemic, when Garrison and Gabriel couldn’t follow Kody’s rules, Kody tried to get Janelle to kick her son out of the house. Kody claimed it was the only way he could come see his second wife and their other children. Janelle’s refusal triggered their eventual divorce. Janelle knew that refusing Kody’s request would be a hassle, but she decided to put her son first.

Janelle has mourned Garrison by spending more time with her children and even started a new Brown family tradition. On April 9, North America was treated to a solar eclipse, with the path of totality falling over parts of the United States. To Jane posted footage of the event on Instagram, with The Beatles song “Here Comes The Sun” playing in the background. In the footage, Janelle enjoyed the solar eclipse with her son Logan Brown and his wife Michelle Brown.

In addition to spending more time with her family, Janelle also tried to distract herself with work. March 30, Reddit user u/Careless_Secretary47 posted a screenshot detailing a new business that Janelle had just registered. The Sister wives star calls the company Taeda Farms, where he plans to grow and sell cut flowers. It is important to remember that people grieve in different ways. While some people may want space to grieve, others deal with grief by engaging in a project that brings them peace and purpose.
