A popular Twickenham pub is set to become a ‘sustainable food destination’ after a six-figure makeover. Landlords Christian Arden and Ben Abrahams took over The Royal Oak at the end of September after it was left in a “decline” state by its previous owners.

The pair have now invested over £100,000 in the Richmond Road pub, transforming the main bar area with new lighting, wooden tables, comfortable seating and colorful artwork. They’ve also given the tired exterior a fresh coat of green paint and added a new sign in hopes of restoring the historic pub to its former glory.

Further changes in the form of an upgraded kitchen and private dining room are planned for 2025. The pub will then offer an even wider menu, including a Sunday roast, with sustainable and local produce at its centre.

This will be led by head chef Riccardo Rizzo, who also oversees the kitchens at Christian and Ben’s other pubs in South West London – The Crossing in Barnes, The White Horse in Richmond and The New Inn in Ham Common.

He has already launched The Royal Oak’s autumn and winter dishes, including a wide range of plant-based, fish and meat starters, pizzas, side dishes and desserts.

Christian said: “We want the Royal Oak to become a favorite drinking and dining pub for the local community as well as for visitors to Twickenham stadium looking for a great meal and great post-match drinks.

“We will use local suppliers, fresh ingredients and minimize single-use plastic and waste. We believe pubs have an important role to play in encouraging more sustainable behavior and we are extremely keen to set an example for others to follow.”
