Earlier this month, an all-new spa and gym opened its doors near Old Street station in Islington, not only providing Londoners with affordable access to luxurious wellness facilities, but also a slice of local history.

Ironmonger Row Baths is a completely modernised and refurbished bathhouse, which has been a staple to the community since 1931 when the location first opened.

Back in 2022, the historic building was partially destroyed by a fire which required extensive renovation worksand with those renovations finally complete, the reworked space now features state-of-the-art treatment facilities, including many new and innovative features.

From the salt-infused steam room and juniper sauna to infrared relaxation benches and a stunning plunge poolthese significant improvements are part of a bigger plan for Islington residents to have easier and affordable access to health, wellness, and leisure facilities in the area.

Cllr Nurullah Turan, Executive Member for Health and Social Care said in a statement, “The new spa at the iconic Ironmonger Row Baths is a huge addition to Islington, offering a high-end spa experience at a more affordable costincluding discounted concessionary rates.”

“We are working hard to upgrade our leisure facilities across the borough, to help residents stay active and healthy. The fact that the spa sold out in advance of its opening day is testament to the desire for the new spa to open, as well as the affection that local people have for Ironmonger Row Baths.”

So, if you’re looking to treat yourself to some much-needed self-care, be sure to check out this all-new spa. Sweat it out in the traditional Turkish hot rooms before unwinding on the Hammam treatment benches. There’s even an ice room, different shower experiences, and a dry relaxation space with loungers.

As well as the fantastic spa facilities, Ironmonger Row Baths also houses a 30.5-meter swimming poola multi-functional gym catering to all levels, squash courts, and more.
