When Bridgerton returns for a third season on Netflix, Regé-Jean Page’s Simon is not part of the cast.

The beloved streaming romance will return to the service in May. It focuses on the sizzling chemistry between Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton).

Based on Julia Quinn’s romance novels, the series focuses on one member of the Bridgerton clan over the course of a season. Each new adventure features many returning characters, but the spotlight has the ability to shift from family member to family member.

Why is Simon missing from Bridgerton season 3

The fans Bridgerton Season 1 sees Simon (played by Regé-Jean Page) not returning for the show’s upcoming Season 3.

Page’s character was one of the leads in its first season; however, he has not been seen or heard from since.

In the beginning Bridgerton In the second season, it was revealed that Page had only signed a one-season contract for the Netflix series, which is why she did not appear in the second episode.

That short-term commitment was a big part of the role’s appeal to Page.

In April 2021, Page told Variety that Simon had “one season arc.” He got “Come in, I’ll get my bet” before the rest of the series “roll forward:”

“It’s a one-season arc. It has a beginning, a middle, an end — give us a year. (I thought) ‘That’s interesting,’ because then it felt like a limited series. I get to come in, I get to contribute, and then the ‘Bridgerton’ family continues ahead.”

In response to his exit after the Season 1 arc, the Simon Basset actor thanked fans X (formerly Twitter).

He called his work in the series “(a) pleasure and privilege,” telling the audience “Love is real and only grows:”

“A pleasure and a privilege! It’s an honor to be part of the family – on and off screen, cast, crew and incredible fans – the love is real and only growing.”

Since his departure from the series, rumors have swirled about the return of Regé-Jean Page Bridgerton in some form.

The latest installment of these rumors has seen audiences speculating that his Simon Basset character could return for a third season.

Page has denied these rumors and said on Instagram, “No, I’m not coming back to the show:”

“No, I’m not coming back to the show btw – the papers made it up.”

That doesn’t mean Simon will be acting as a character in the beloved Netflix drama.

Page mentioned in July 2022 that he could see well Bridgerton role again if they needed to (via Variety ).

He said, “They are free to do what they want” and he wouldn’t take a stand if another actor took the role:

“They’re free to do whatever they want. Shonda (Rhimes, Bridgerton’s executive producer) and I had a great conversation at the end of the first season. We were pretty happy with how we got there.”

In the books the series is based on, Simon features prominently in all nine novels written by Julia Quinn.

However Bridgerton the team removed the character from the story while adapting it for the screen.


Bridgerton Season 3, Episode 1 hits Netflix on Thursday, May 16. Part 2 will be released on the 13th. June.
