Emily in Paris Season 4, episode 7 unexpectedly revealed Genevieve’s (Thalia Besson) true intentions.

There’s a lot going on Emily in Paris Season 4, Episode 2, and part of it revolves around the sudden arrival of Genevieve, Sylvie’s (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) stepdaughter from New York, who moves to Paris for a job interview.

The inclusion of the character leads to many problems, mainly for Emily (Lily Collins) and Gabriel (Lucas Bravo).

Genevieve’s lie to Emily about Gabriel explained

Thalia Besson

in Emily in Paris Season 4, Episode 2 Genevieve is supposed to interview for Vogue Paris, but Sylvie ends up derailing the interview when she tries to upsell her about her connection to the company.

Instead of ending up at Vogue Paris, Sylvie hires Genevieve to work for her at Agence Grateau, making her another American employee alongside Emily.

Genevieve and Emily form an instant bond as they become work couples on their first day together. He even gets to join Emily on a video shoot for Gabriel’s TV series, but things are still awkward for the former couple as their breakup is fresh.

During filming, Emily and Gabriel have an emotionally intense confrontation after Emily is moved by what she said without telling them about her feelings for each other.

Gabriel tells Emily that the problem is that they just “communicate in your language, not mine.”

He then hits her in French and tells her that he feels “tore up” since him “I didn’t even try” to fight for them because he spent all his time convincing her that they were worth it no matter what:

“I feel cheated. I had this bright future with you, Michelin star, baby. But I spent time trying to convince you that we were worth it. And you didn’t even try. I’m exhausted. I don’t. believe in anything anymore… We have communication problems, but it’s really not my fault.”

Emily, who doesn’t speak French, doesn’t understand what Gabriel said.

However, Genevieve is fluent in French (she lied to Sylvie before Emily in Paris Season 4, Episode 6 that he’s not good at) rushes to help Gabriel while also convincing him to participate in an interview for a TV show.

Emily is shocked to learn that Genevieve speaks French and asks her to help her understand what Gabriel said to her earlier.

When Genevieve tells Emily about her communication problems, she lies to her saying that Gabriel doesn’t want to see her anymore.

Later that night, Emily and Mindy see Genevieve hanging out and having drinks with Gabriel at his restaurant.

The fact that she lied and later spent time with Gabriel reinforced the idea that she wants him for herself, which spells bad news for Emily.

Why does Genevieve want Gabriel?

There’s a sense that Genevieve wants the spotlight, and she sees Emily as an obstacle to her success, not only at Agence Grateau, but in Paris in general.

He wants to take everything away from Emily, and the first step is to lure Gabriel away from her.

The lie is just the tip of the iceberg as she uses it to get Gabriel’s attention, and the latter episodes further show that Genevieve has bad intentions for Emily.

Genevieve sees that Emily is vulnerable without Gabriel, and possibly sees this as an opportunity to distract her from work, allowing her to shine and impress her stepmother, Sylvie.

He even moves into the same apartment building as Emily and Gabriel and takes it to the next level by drunkenly kissing her during the warm-up party.

All in all, Genevieve is bad news for Emily and Gabriel and a major obstacle if the couple wants to get back together.
