The starting line of the 2025 TCS London Marathon is officially within touching distance, folks. And if you listen carefully enough, you might just hear the faint sounds of carbs being loaded, laces being tied, and nervous runners repeatedly uttering: ‘remind me why I signed up for this again’.

With its unparalleled atmosphere and its vibes as high as The Shard, the London Marathon is undeniably one of the capital city’s best days of the year. And it’s about to get even better for the heroes that’ll be hotfooting it around London on Sunday – because London Marathon runners will be entitled to free travel.

Free race-day travel for London Marathon runners

In a bid to make getting to and from the big race as easy as possible for participants, Transport for London is offering London Marathon runners free travel on all London Underground and Overground services, as well as the DLR and London buses. As with previous years, the free service will run from the morning all the way until 6.30pm on marathon day (Sunday, April 27). All you need to do is show your race number or your medal to a member of TfL staff at the ticket gates, and you’ll be able to hop aboard for free.

This year, London Marathoners will also be able to travel on specific sections of the Southeastern rail service for freetoo. This will only be available when travelling into London in the morning, though. Runners will still need to use a valid train ticket for their travel after the race. You can find out more about which Southeastern routes can be used for free here.

Other railway operators are also offering free travel in and out of London for marathon-runners on Sunday, but please check the website of your particular train-provider to find out the specific details.
