Witcher 4 was officially announced, but when the game will actually be released is a mystery.

CD Projekt Red’s gritty RPG series is ready to make its triumphant return, as the latest installment in the long-running fantasy series was unveiled at the 2024 Game Awards.

This new addition to the franchise joins the ranks of friends Witcher The Netflix series (which is awaiting a season 4 release date) and the ongoing remake project of the first Witcher leading the game Baldur’s Gate 3 supporting studio Fool’s Theory.

After years of knowing, the fourth game Witcher franchise was coming, fans finally got a glimpse of it, mountain Witcher 4 ready for its final release.

Debuting via an in-engine trailer at the 2024 Game Awards, developer CD Projekt Red pulled back the curtain on its latest long-form release. Witcher franchise, introducing a new protagonist, Ciri, as she took on the task of hunting down one of the series’ iconic monsters.

There was no exact release date in the trailer, but the game was revealed to the public and nothing else.

This came after years of news that the CD Projekt Red team was working on the next game Witcher series; however, it was only known by name Project Polaris contrary to its proper title, Witcher 4.

Days before the Game Awards were announced, the studio made the announcement Witcher 4 had entered full production, which means that release may still be a long way off.

Witcher 4 game director Sebastian Kalemba posted on X (formerly Twitter) telling fans, “I am excited to announce it Project Polaris has moved into a full-scale production phase:”

“I’m excited to announce that ‘Project Polaris’ has moved into full-scale production! New challenges just around the corner, talented and hard-working people make me believe that together we can make the next Witcher Saga an amazing experience. Stay tuned for the other side of the coin.”

When will The Witcher 4 be released?

Although Witcher 4 only now in full production, it has been developed in the studio for several years.

According to a report by IGN Witcher 4 Development took place before May 2022, as the studio announced at the time that the game had officially entered pre-production.

This means that after the game was officially revealed, it had been in development in some form for at least the last two and a half years.

In comparison, CD Projekt Red’s last RPG epic, Cyberpunk 2077went into full development only after that Witcher 3first extension, Blood and Winewas released in May 2016 (via IGN). Cyberpunk was not published until four years later, in December 2020.

So if Witcher 4 With the game entering full production in December 2024, fans shouldn’t expect the game to be released until 2027 at the earliest (but more likely 2028).
