Members of the Corporation’s Community and Children’s Services Committee have elected Helen Fentimen OBE to chair the body.

The committee is responsible for the City Corporation’s social housing – running 12 residential estates across the Square Mile and six London boroughs.

It also oversees the City Corporation’s public health, leisure, and homelessness and rough sleeping and social services programmes, and the organisation’s work as a local education authority.

Its children’s social care services are rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.

Ms Fentimen has had a long-standing career in the NHS for which she was awarded an OBE for Services to health Care.

She has since continued to work in public services as a Magistrate in Central London and as Chair of School Governors of Prior Weston Primary School and Children’s Centre. She is also a Trustee of Theodora’s Childrens Charity

She is particularly interested in public services, specifically housing, health, and education, and is committed to ensuring that the interests of residents are appropriately represented within the City.

Chair of the City Corporation’s Community and Children’s Services Committee, Helen Fentimen, said:

“I am delighted to be elected as chair of this important committee. For me, the residents across our estates and people who work and visit the City are a top priority.

“The Square Mile has a lot to offer and within the Community and Children’s Services Committee I will ensure that the ’s communities are well represented, keeping them at the heart of the decisions that the committee makes.

“I am totally committed to ensuring that the Square Mile remains a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable place for everyone.”

Ruby Sayed was elected as deputy chair.
