Adding a pop of colour to the London summer, Roof East will open its doors for another raucous runaround in the sun on April 14, 2022. Feeding London’s enduring love affair with rooftop pop-ups, the Roof East have woven the magic of turning an east London multi-storey car park into a free-spirited playground. And this summer’s season is poised to be the best one yet, with a brand new look and a new wave of food vendors and fun activities to entertain you during those long summer nights!
Sitting alongside Peckham Levels and Skylight in the “multi-storey car parks turned event space” category, Roof East is a firm favourite amongst the Secret London team, and for good reason. That love affair is only likely to grow during the 2022 season, as Roof East expands to a whopping 30,000 square feet of sun-soaked shenanigans. A fresh, vibrant lick of paint (described as “a blaze of colour 2.0”) has spruced up the rooftop for 2022, so you can bank on the vibes being pretty immaculate here.
There’s plenty on the roster at London’s largest outdoor playground; old favourites Sluggers are back with their batting cages, whilst the ever-popular Birdies crazy golf and East London Bowls Club are returning to the roster of games. Excitingly, there’s a brand new game to enjoy this summer, and it’ll have you embracing your inner Legolas. Arrows invites you to grab a bow and arrow and aim for the bullseye, with the promise that the loser buys the next round…
If you’d prefer to use your vocal chords rather than your golf swing, Roof East have you covered with the arrival of Carpark Karaoke. Jump in the karaoke cab and sing your choice of power ballad to the heavens, in a fun new riff on the classic karaoke bar. Knowing my singing talents, I think I’ll stick to putting, but this is no doubt going to prove a very popular attraction!
Elsewhere across the site, you can play Jenga, Ping Pong, and Cornhole, pint in hand, and Beat the Bar – which involves testing your upper-body strength by holding onto the hang bar, although you’ll maybe want to put the pint down for that one. You can expect a full programme of events to complement the games, with yoga sessions, Jenga championships, quiz nights, paint & sip events, and the promise of a special event for the Platinum Jubilee all in the pipeline.
Roof East will also welcome a wave of new street food vendors to the roof this summer, with Naughty Burger slinging the California-inspired burgers, Raastawala serving Indian street food with Kolkati heritage, and Piddaji sizzling up Turkish flatbreads to keep the hunger at bay. 2022 also sees the first ever dessert vendor arrive on the roof, with female-owned Treats Club on hand to serve up Biscoff Cookie Donut Bites, Kinder & Oreo S’Mores Donut Sundaes, and other droolworthy treats.
Snag a seat in the venue’s colourful cabanas, scoff on a hearty mouthful of street food, and mentally prepare yourself to do battle across the archery lanes and batting cages – honestly, what could be better on a summer’s night? They’ve also partnered with Choose Love this year, allowing guests to make optional donations or purchase a special cocktail that raises money for refugees, as if you needed another reason to visit.
To toast those glorious sunsets, the bars will be serving beer, wine, bubbles, and some glorious cocktails; check out the Strawberries and Cream, made with vodka, wild raspberry liquor, and fresh English strawberries. Get a round of sundowners in, and life on the roof will be just peachy!
