If you’ve been out for cocktails lately, you’ve likely spied a lot of long, refreshing, sunset hued drinks being served, or at least you’ve spotted them being snapped on your socials. Yes, it’s Paloma season people – not only is the drink the national cocktail of Mexico, it’s the cocktail of the summer too – and Patrón is leading the celebrations with Patrón Paloma Week this week.
Typically made from tequila, grapefruit and soda, a Paloma has all the sweetness, bitterness, zestiness and fizz you could want from a refreshing summer drink.
The perfect Patrón Paloma is made with Patrón Reposado. Handmade in Jalisco, Mexico, from the finest 100% Weber Blue Agave, each bottle is carefully distilled in small batches and aged in oak barrels for over two months, creating the perfect amount of smoothness and sweetness in every single Patrón Paloma cocktail.
Here’s how to shake up the Perfect Patrón Paloma at home:
Ingredients
45ml Patrón Reposado
90ml Fresh grapefruit juice
15ml Agave syrup (1:1)
15ml Fresh-squeezed lime juice
30ml Sparkling water
1 pinch of salt
+ Grapefruit slice for garnish
+ Salt rim (optional)
Method
1. Combine all ingredients except sparkling water in a shaker tin and shake with ice to chill
2. Strain onto fresh ice in a salt rimmed Collins glass.
3. Top with sparkling water and garnish with a pink grapefruit wedge
The Patrón Paloma action doesn’t stop there as there are plenty of places to head out for cocktails too, in town this week. In honour of Patrón Paloma Week, Satan’s Whiskers is running a specially curated Patrón Paloma Menu, Boxpark is shaking up limited edition Patrón Palomas, Hacha is putting on a Patrón Paloma Paired Brunch this Saturday and the DUSK app has teamed up with hundreds of venues across the country for Patrón Paloma giveaways.
