Paul Mescal will be making his big screen comeback in Gladiator II, which hits theaters next month, but fans can get an early look.
The sequel to Sir Ridley Scott’s critically acclaimed 2000 film, Gladiator II features a star-studded cast including Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington and Joseph Quinn. Connie Nielsen and Derek Jacobi also return to their roles from the original film.
Mescal takes on the lead role of Lucius, son of Maximus, the protagonist from the first film, who is forced into battle in the Colosseum after his home is invaded by an army.
Although the historical epic is scheduled to open in theaters on November 15, it has been announced that the film will open two days earlier in London, thanks to Paramount Pictures and The Film and TV Charity.
Fans have the opportunity to attend an early screening at The Royal Film Performance, which coincides with the Film and TV Charity’s centenary. Tickets go on sale on October 16 via the charity’s website, and live footage from the red carpet will be streamed to 30 regional cinemas across the UK, the Mirror reports.
The location of the event has yet to be revealed, and those outside of London will have to wait for word on which cinemas will be streaming the premiere.
The historic film fundraiser, which dates back to 1946, is in aid of The Film and TV Charity, helping workers in the UK’s film, TV and cinema sectors. The event’s prestigious history includes royal guests such as HM King George VI, HM Queen Elizabeth, HRH Princess Elizabeth and HRH Princess Margaret at its inaugural event.
Marcus Ryder, CEO of the Film and TV Charity, said: “I am delighted to announce that Gladiator II has been confirmed as the 72nd Royal Film Performance. The first performance during my time as CEO.”
He also said: “The event provides an opportunity to highlight the exceptional commitment and talent of those who work tirelessly behind the scenes. This performance also enables us to raise vital funds which enable us to continue to provide vital support to talent in the film, television, and cinema industries as they navigate challenging times.”
Gladiator II is released in theaters on November 15.
