Gavin George is stepping down as CEO of Laine Pub Company after 27 years in the role.

He will step down from day-to-day management of Laine Pub Company, the pub and brewery business he founded in 1997 with Peter Bennett.

George will move into a new role as a non-executive director of the wider Punch Pubs & Co business, where he will continue to hold a stake as a shareholder.

Russell Danks, who joined the CEO of Laine’s pub department last year, will take over the day-to-day management of the company from the end of September. He is supported by Martin Entwistle, who oversees Laine’s brewing department.

The Laine Pub Company currently has over 50 locations in London, Birmingham and its core area of Brighton.

George said: “I’ve had the most amazing 27 years leading an amazingly progressive business with amazing pubs, Teams and customers. I’m grateful to everyone who has contributed to Laine’s success and for supporting me through the good times and the challenges.

“I would especially like to thank all the managers and staff of the countless pubs, clubs, bars and breweries we have worked with over the years for their creativity, energy and resilience in the face of recent significant challenges such as pandemics, wars and economic turmoil.

“I also want to pay tribute to the people of Brighton & Hove – Laine’s birthplace – whose persistence from the beginning and unique worldview have been the inspiration and promoter of much of Laine’s achievements.”
