Alex Cosgriff, Dora Gee, Sue Kelvin, Daisy Snelson and Dominic Sullivan have been announced for the world premiere of Entertaining Murderopening at Upstairs at the Gatehouse from 23 April to 10 May.

The new musical, written and directed by Chris Burgess, explores the sensational true crime case of Edith Thompson, whose 1922 Old Bailey trial captivated the nation. The production follows the events surrounding the murder of Edith’s husband and the lingering question of her guilt or innocence.

Alex Cosgriff will appear as Percy Thompson, with Dora Gee as Young Avis and Sue Kelvin as Avis. Daisy Snelson plays Edith Thompson and Dominic Sullivan takes the role of Freddy Bywaters.

Gee was recently nominated Best Performer in a Musical at The Stage Debut Awards for The Mad Oneswhile Kelvin’s extensive West End credits include Wicked, Chicago and Les Miserables. Cosgriff, Snelson and Sullivan also bring a range of stage experience to the premiere staging.

Following successful public readings and workshops, this first full production features new songs and a 1920s-inspired design. Burgess has previously premiered ten shows at the venue, including It’s Only Make Believe, Iceberg Right Ahead! and The MGM Story.

The creative team includes choreographer Robbie O’Reilly, musical director Aaron Clingham and lighting designer Richard Lambert.

Press night will take place on Tuesday 28 April at 7.30pm.
