From indulgent bottomless brunches, to unfussy Australian-style breakfasts and modern riffs on Taiwanese comfort foods, here are the best brunches and breakfasts in north London…

    Photo: St Pancras By Searcys

1 St Pancras By Searcys, King’s Cross

Perfect for an early morning meal before whizzing off to Paris on the EuroStar, the breakfast offering by Searcys is finally back after being unavailable for two years. The menu has been created in celebration of the ‘humble egg’, with highlights including soft boiled eggs with marmite soldiers, three egg omelette with a choice of five fillings, and buttermilk and blueberry pancakes with maple syrup. Home to Europe’s longest Champagne, it’s the perfect option for those looking to enjoy their breakfast with a side of fizz.

    2 Porte Noire, King’s Cross

I don’t want to name drop, but this is Idris Elba’s wine bar. Housed in the always charming Coal Drops Yard, it’s a place to quaff great drops of plonk and inject a little bit of style into your night – it’s a good date night option too. The kitchen plates up light bites all day long, and there is a more substantial menu for lunch and dinner. The venue hasa brunch menu too. Available on the weekend from 12pm to 3pm it features brunch favourites such as egg royale, as well as more lunchy dishes such as steak tartare.

3 Jazz Brunch at Plaquemine Lock, Islington

Perched on Regents Canal, Plaquemine Lock’s Jazz Brunch is an ode to Southern American cuisine and culture. Transporting people to New Orleans, the Louisiana-inspired pub offers up a brunch menu with a cajun spin, and live jazz to boot. Enjoy southern brunch favourites, including buttermilk fried chicken pancakes, bacon beignets and eggs sardou, as well as creole cocktails and craft beer.

    4 Cafe BAO, King’s Cross

Cafe CAO in King’s Cross has a weekend breakfast menu serving up contemporary takes on Taiwanese breakfast classics. Along side a line-up of baked goods, there’s a breakfast BAO made with a sausage and cheese patty and layered with a hash brown and friend egg. There’s also the Taiwanese Savoury Soy Milk, which is a version of the traditional dou jiang breakfast dish found across Taiwan and China. Savoury soy milk is flavoured with Taiwanese sun-dried daikon, soy sauce, vinegar and sesame oil, and served with crispy fried dough, or youtiao, to dip into the milk.

The brunch where you get to play with your food and eat it, Crazy Pizza’s Crazy Bubbles party brunches are filled with spinning pizza, On Saturdays only (12pm-3pm), brunch here won’t be the egg-based kind. Rather, brunch goes down with Italian flair, with starters of the likes of caponata with mozzarella, focaccia, truffle arancini, pizzas ( of course) and tiramisu for dessert. There’s also a new Crazy Pizza, in Knightsbridge. Brunch from £100pp

    6 Decimo, King’s Cross

Another Saturday party brunch, and this one’s at Michelin-starred Peter Sanchez-Iglesias’ Mexican fusion restaurant at The Standard Hotel. Quaff Sevilla mimosas and margaritas as you feast on sharing dishes and small plates that are a mix of popular taps faves and breakfast plates such as pork belly tacos, chorizo, croquets de jamon and tortilla. Make sure you dress sharp for this one.

    7 Milk Beach, Queen’s Park

Bringing Sydney’s causal beachy vibes to north London, Milk Beach is an Australian-style cafe serving up warm weather cocktails, pancakes, banana bread, eggy-breakfast mains, including the comfort eating soft boiled egg in a jar with sweet potato puree, cream and toast soldiers. A Soho-sister venue is coming soon.
