Students from an ‘Outstanding’ sixth form centre in Islington have been celebrating their first set of A-Level results today.

Students at the Academy Highgate Hill achieved 57% A*- A and 85% received A* – B grades. They achieved an overall pass rate of 100%.

Last month Ofsted inspectors rated its sixth form centre ‘Outstanding’. Ofsted gave an overall rating of ‘Good’ to the school, across all five inspection areas – quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership, and management.

It is a remarkable turnaround for the academy, which was rated as ‘Requires Improvement’ by Ofsted in its previous inspection.

Inspectors said: “Leaders have set high expectations for all pupils”, who “deepen their interests and widen their horizons”, with visits to universities “raising pupils’ aspirations”.

The Academy Highgate Hill is a member of the Academies Trust, which runs the Corporation’s sponsored academies.

The City Corporation sponsors ten high-performing academies across Hackney, Islington, Newham, and Southwark through the Trust. Five out of the 10 Academies Trust schools hold an ‘outstanding’ Ofsted rating, and three are rated ‘good’ with ‘outstanding features.

“They deserve the success that we are celebrating today, and we wish them the very best for the future.

“Thanks also to staff, parents, Governors, and our sponsor, the Corporation, for their unwavering support for the students and the academy as a whole.”

“My colleagues and I at the Academies Trust Board send them our warmest wishes and congratulations, and our deep gratitude to the dedicated teaching staff.”
