The director of Final Fantasy XVI’s upcoming Leviathan DLC has given players a few hints about what to expect from The Rising Tides’ story.

Final Fantasy XVI left its main story at a low point for the world of Valisthea. But those who were worried about what would happen next can rest easy. According to the developers, a “bright future” awaits Valisthea.

In a recent interview with Famitsu, members of the FFXVI development team sat down to talk about what players can expect from the recently announced Leviathan DLC, The Rising Tide.

According to Takeo Kujiraoka, director of The Rising Tide, development “started with the idea of wanting to go on an adventure to a better world.”

DLC director Takeo Kujiraoka wanted players to begin their new adventure “under blue skies.”

Valisthea’s new hope

Kujiraoka said his goal was to “expand the player experience” by incorporating everything that constitutes Valisthea’s world . Including its locations, his side quest and its dramatic battles. “Above all, I wanted to create and show the moment when a new story begins, in a new area, under a blue sky. »

Although it also warns players, the new DLC will not be picked up right after the end of FFXVI’s main story. “But the story is designed to give you a sense of hope,” he says. “Even if the crystal disappears from Valisthea, its inhabitants will surely recover. »

The Rising Tide also contains a fun easter egg for longtime fans of the Final Fantasy series.

The newly added zone, Mysidia, is an “homage” to the mage colonies from Final Fantasy II and Final Fantasy IV.
