The story of Phillip, a young Romanian athlete from Great Britain, is one of talent, work and ambition. In just a few years, he managed to become the world and European champion in kickboxing, and last year he did not lose a single match.
Behind these performances, however, there is also a huge financial effort for the family, which tries to support his dream of competing at the international level.
Fillip’s parents are originally from Bistrita and moved to the UK 19 years ago in search of a better life.
Through hard work and perseverance, they managed to build a stable life for themselves. Both parents work hard to support his sporting career and give him the chance to compete at the highest level.
Phillip also has an older sister who supports him unconditionally and is by his side at every competition and important stage.

From the first practice to the world title
Phillip started kickboxing in 2021.
The progress was spectacular. In 2022, he started participating in international competitions, and in October, just one year after his first training, he became world champion.
An undefeated season
The year 2025 was an exceptional one for the young athlete.
Fillip participated in international competitions in Greece, Italy and Hungary, and in September 2025 he became European champion.
During the whole year he did not lose a single fight.
In total he had around 90 matches, both in the UK and in international competitions. Major tournaments he has participated in include the GB Grand Slam and the Bristol Open.
An intense competitive program in 2026
For 2026, Phillip has scheduled an extremely demanding competition calendar.
Next competitions in: Italy, Croatia, Belgium, Hungary
Will also take part in: Barnsley National Championship, GB Grand Slam Crawley, September World Championship in Italy
This year, for financial reasons, he refused to participate in the competitions in Greece and Holland.
The family says they cannot afford to participate in all the scheduled competitions, having to give up some of them for financial reasons.
Huge costs for performance
Participation in international competitions involves very high costs.
In addition to transportation and lodging for each trip, the athlete must pay entry fees for each category in which they compete.
The fee for a single category at international competitions is around €65 and Fillip usually competes in at least four categories.
Last year, attending the competitions, including flights, accommodation and other expenses, cost the family between £9,000 and £10,000.
In addition, WAKO approved protective equipment, competition gloves and helmet, approved medical certificate, local transport between the hotel and the arena are required.
Fillip competes in three disciplines: points fighting, kick light and light contact, each requiring different equipment and uniforms.
Intense training and club involvement
Phillip trains in Bristol at the Epic club, one of the best known kickboxing clubs in the area.
He attends training at three club locations and works with different trainers to develop his fighting style.
In addition, he is a junior assistant and helps the younger athletes during training and initiation courses.
He is also part of the national team and participates in training organized in Birmingham every month. In July he will take part in a training camp for the national team in Lilleshall.
The family is looking for sponsors to support their career
To be able to continue participating in international competitions, the family is currently looking for a company to sponsor him and support the development of Phillip’s sports career.
At the same time, parents say any help counts.
Those who want to support the young man’s sports career can contribute 5 or 10 pounds, or any amount they can afford, by transferring to the parents’ account.
Community support could make all the difference and help Phillip continue to successfully represent the Romanian community and Great Britain on the international kickboxing scene.
