In Dropin the finale, it was finally revealed that Aaron Moten’s Maximus was the one who hurt Dane in the first episode of the series.

In the premiere, shortly after Xelia Mendes-Jones’s Dane is anointed and ordained as a knight’s slave, an up-and-coming member of the Brotherhood of Steel is seriously wounded.

It turns out that someone put razor blades in their boots, causing them to burn so badly that they didn’t go into the wasteland. This led to Maximus being promoted instead.

It’s a mystery that the show went unanswered for almost the entire first season, but most of the brotherhood assumed Maximus was behind it.

Did Maximus hurt Dane in Fallout?

The subject of Dane’s injury returns DropThe grand finale as Maximus is escorted back to Filly.

Upon arrival, he is asked why he is wearing the knight’s rouge (a uniform power armor worn under the suit). Maximus admits that his knight was killed in action, to which Quintus (leader of the Brotherhood’s local sect) points out that this isn’t the first time a comrade of Maximus has met with an accident.

Quintus accuses Maximus of lying on both counts, which almost results in the up-and-coming Brotherhood member losing his life—especially when it’s revealed that the head Maximus brought isn’t the one everyone’s looking for.

Before the knight can kill Maximus, Dane comes up and admits that they were the ones hurting themselves.

It turns out that Mendes-Jones’ character was so afraid of being out in the wasteland that self-harm with the razor blades in his boots seemed like a solid backup plan. Although it may be considered a crazy rationalization, this is Dropits wasteland anyway.

Maximus has done some questionable things throughout the show, but hurting his close friend Dane is not one of them.

What does Season 2 have in store for Maximus and Dane?

In the final scenes Drop Season 1, Maximus is hailed as the hero of the Brotherhood of Steel – a moment that only started thanks to Dane’s hype about killing the Moldaver (which he didn’t). So for those worried about the duo’s friendship, it may be just the beginning.

Hopefully a potential season 2 will give them more screen time to develop the dynamic.

After all, when Aaron Moten’s Maximus receives an offer from Brotherhood of Steel leader Quintus to rise through the ranks, his character is probably going to stick around for a while longer — maybe even longer than just two episodes.

The entire Brotherhood faction could use more flesh on screen, and Maximus and Dane make a strong duo to watch in the ranks. Maybe if they stay together Dane can meet Ella Purnell’s Lucy too.
