Netflix is getting a new series gem! At least, if we can believe the already enthusiastic reactions on social media. ‘The Gentleman’ will be a remake of the 2019 film of the same name, but with a new cast (and different plot).

What is ‘The Gentleman’ about?

In ‘The Gentleman’ from 2019 – a film by Guy Ritchie – we follow American drug lord Mickey Pearson, who owns a very profitable marijuana business in London. When the underworld gets wind of his plans (read: he wants to sell the place), all kinds of plans are made to take over his drug empire. The cast of the British-American comedy crime film at the time included Matthew McConaughey and Hugh Grant, to name just a few.

‘The Gentleman’ the series, soon new on Netflix

Serial remake will somewhat resemble the old story, but with a slightly different approach. In the new version we follow Eddie Horniman (played by Theo James, whom you may know from ‘The White Lotus’) who inherits an estate from his father. That starts out nice, until he discovers that he has also ‘inherited’ his cannabis empire. In this way, he unwittingly puts himself in the spotlight of the underworld, forcing him to do everything he can to protect his family. Because the series one sequel is, the series will pay more attention to developing the characters.

Who is in the cast of ‘The Gentleman’?

In addition to Theo James, Vinnie Jones, Kaya Scodalerio, Giancarlo Esposito, Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Peter Serafinowicz, Max Beesley, Harry Goodwins, Ruby Sear and Ray Winstone also star in the series. It’s unclear if OG stars like Matthew McConaughey will return as well. That is not completely impossible, because Guy Ritchie is again – together with Matthew Read – co-writer of the series. He will also direct two episodes.

Is there a trailer for ‘The Gentleman’ yet?

Yes! At least: a short one. Netflix published a teaser on January 15, and it already bodes well. It is still unclear exactly from what date The Gentleman can be streamed, but the trailer talks about ‘this march’. This March, that is! You can view it below.
