While fans have been supportive of Amy’s ambitious body transformation goals, many 1000-lb Sisters viewers are unaware that she has more than her weight to worry about. Before they were introduced to the world 1000-lb Sisters, Amy and her sister Tammy Slaton were popular online. Amy started working as an entertainer on YouTube in January 2011. Over the years, Amy collected millions of views by sharing vlogs about her and her sister’s everyday life. Amy’s YouTube videos gained so much traction that they eventually got her and her sister their own reality series. Although 1000-lb Sisters mainly focuses on Amy and Tammy’s journeys before and after bariatric surgery, Amy has spoken about other illnesses she has overcome or learned to live with.

In the year 2015 Amy shared a video titled “Amy’s toxoplasmosis.” In a YouTube video, Amy described lifelong eye problems that have left her legally blind.. In the video below, Amy explained that she can barely see out of her left eye and can only partially see out of her right eye.

Amy said that her eyes have always been like this. She said she was bullied at school because of her eyes. Amy explained that her eyesight was impaired because of her mother’s cat.
