Smite 2 aims to re-define the original Smite more than a decade after its debut, with the game changing almost everything except for the core third-person gameplay. Here’s everything you need to know from how to sign up for the Alpha to Smite 2’s release date & much more.

Smite 2 has been announced as a full sequel to the original, one that aims to go beyond games like Overwatch 2 and Counter-Strike 2 to fully take advantage of the opportunity.

Rather than putting a new coat of paint on the old game and outright replacing it, Smite 2 aims to stand on its own as a sequel. So much so that the developers are aiming to keep Smite 1 alive as long as people are willing to play it, confident that Smite 2 can stand on its own.

Here’s everything you need to know about Smite 2’s release including the Alpha’s release window and signup, which gods will be playable in the Alpha & more.

Does Smite 2 have a release date?

At this time, the full game doesn’t have a release date. However, the Alpha will be coming out in Spring 2024, meaning anyone excited about Smite 2 will be able to get access to the game in the coming months.

The Alpha will only have 25 playable gods, only 10 of which are confirmed at the time of writing:

  • Bacchus
  • Anhur
  • Ymir
  • Anubis
  • Bellona
  • Chaac
  • Kukulkan
  • Odin
  • Cernunnos
  • Loki

While every god is coming to Smite 2 at some point, the order in which they arrive won’t have any correlation with their actual release date in the original game. This means it may take a while for your main to come from Smite 1 to Smite 2.

Is Smite 1 shutting down for Smite 2?

At the time of writing, there are no plans for Smite 1 to be shut down. It’ll co-exist with Smite 2 and even get another year of content as the Alpha kicks off, giving the game one last year of fresh content and even some minor updates after that.

If everyone decides to leave Smite 1 behind at some point and players aren’t interested in the old game anymore, servers won’t be kept alive past that. But, as long as people are interested in playing Smite 1, it’ll be available.

This is especially important for people who are still playing on PS4 and Xbox One considering Smite 2 is a current-gen only release.

How do you sign up for the Smite 2 Alpha?

People who want to get in on the action early with the Alpha will be able to sign up for it on their official website. Registering for the Alpha doesn’t guarantee access, but players can buy their way in by purchasing a Smite 2 Founder’s Pack that also includes some Smite 1 goodies.

What’s changing in Smite 2?

Almost everything is changing in Smite 2. The map is being updated with completely different lane layouts and jungle camps, items are being completely changed, and gods can now buy Strength and Intelligence rather than being bound to Magical of Physical damage items in the previous game.
