The Sphinx in Dragon’s Dogma 2 offers players a fun, non-combat challenge to complete, and solving them earns players a Crystalport and other useful rewards.

The world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 is evolving and immersive, so many surprises await players as they explore. The Arch of the Sphinx is an encounter that deserves to be explored off the beaten track.

The Sphinx gives our Arisen a different kind of challenge than other monsters they will encounter. It’s not worth fighting her, in fact it will make her run away and players will never get the chance to earn her rewards. Instead, this is an encounter where intelligence and cunning are required.

As in the original Dragon’s Dogma, the Sphinx presents a series of riddles that must be answered. Answering each puzzle correctly yields rewards, including one Port crystal which alone is worth the effort to address the Sphinx’s problems.

Here are all the Sphinx riddles and answers, plus how to find the enigmatic creature.

How to find the sphinx and start its arc

Players can find the sphinx at the mountain shrine in the far north of Checkpoint Rest Town.

To find the Sphinx, players must head north from Checkpoint Rest Town towards the Mountain Shrine. To get there, head north from town and follow the road towards the old battlefields.

Inside the Battleground Ruins is an NPC, Oskar, with a side quest. Players are free to take on Oskar’s task before or after the Sphinx, as it is not tied to his arc. However, this is an easy way to get to the top of the ruins.

Regardless of whether the players head to the ruins with Oskar or not, atop the ruined castle, a Cyclops blocks the way. Deal with the monster and then head to Worldsend Cavern. Inside is where players will find the Sphinx.

First series of riddles and answers about the Sphinx

Capcom

Players can earn useful rewards like gate crystals and wakestones by completing Sphinx puzzles.

There are five riddles in the first set of riddles from the Sphinx to the Mountain Shrine: the Riddle of the Eyes, the Riddle of Madness, the Riddle of Wisdom, the Riddle of Conviction, and the Riddle of Rumination.

Here’s how to solve each puzzle and their rewards.

The eye riddle

“Our eyes are our allies, but they often fail, for the eyes lie, therefore I advise, and therefore they lead astray. But how will your eyes advise you? Enter through this door and gather what is most precious .

Response: After saying the riddle, the Sphinx will open the cracked door. Behind her is a large series of caves teeming with monsters, including an Ogre. Above the entrance, however, is a chest containing a sealing bottle. This is the correct item to give to the sphinx to solve the riddle.

Award : 1x Wakestone

The Riddle of Madness

“Love is the twin of madness,” they say. They are quickly connected, as night turns to day. So bring me your beloved, that I may measure the depth of your folly.

Response: To solve this puzzle, the player must return to the sphinx with the person with whom they have the highest affinity score. Simply take the person back to the mountain shrine using a ferry stone, place them on the pedestal and tell the sphinx that this is their beloved.

Award : 1x Port crystal

The Riddle of Wisdom

“The parent knows the child, but the opposite is far from true. The child does not know the parent; such is the duty of parents. I am a lost child, I long for kinship. So bring my parents with me so I can learn.

Response: This is one of the hardest puzzles to solve. Players must bring a Capcom pawn nicknamed Sphinx to Sphinx. SphinxParent, SphinxMother and SphinxFather will all work. Players can easily teleport their pawn using the Riftstone of Fellowship. Then just carry them to the Sphinx.

Award : 1,200x RC

Conundrum of Conviction

“Life is an enigma—a lender of mortal debts. Yet the lighter pack quickens the foot, and meets challenges with agility. So give me what you value most, and thus avoid your heavy disappearance.”

Response: Although the flavor text suggests that players pay out for their most valuable item, each item given to the sphinx correctly solves the puzzle. However, this puzzle will duplicate any item the player gives to the sphinx. So it’s worth giving the Sphinx something valuable like a Crystalport or Wakestone.

Rewards: 1x Portcristal

Ruminant Riddle

“You are familiar with the Scientist’s symbols, I presume?” Those memories from a trip that we remember fondly? But where did you find your first one? Retrace your steps, if you can, you may make a new discovery.

Response: The answer to this riddle depends on when the player started the game and where they found their first rapids token. The Sphinx gives players seven in-game days to return to where they found it. There they find a Founder Token. Collect it and return it to him.

Rewards: 3x Ferrystone

How to find the second Sphinx location

Capcom/Fextralife

After solving the first set of puzzles, players must head to the Frontier Sanctuary.

Once players complete the first set of puzzles on the sphinx, the sphinx will go to a new location. The border reserve. This shrine is easier to access than the mountain shrine. Head south out of Checkpoint Rest Town and follow the path west across the river. Continue up the ridge, the Border Shrine is beyond the cave.

Solution to the Reunion puzzle

Simply reaching the Border Shrine also counts towards solving one of the Sphinx puzzles in Dragon’s Dogma 2. This puzzle is known as the Reunion Puzzle, and players are rewarded with 100,000 gold coins when they reach the shrine and meet the Sphinx again.

Second series of riddles and answers about the Sphinx

Capcom

Players must visit various locations and NPCs in the upcoming Sphinx puzzle series.

It’s worth throwing in a Crystalport before tackling the second set of puzzles, as players will be traveling back and forth between other locations and the Border Shrine. The second set of Sphinx puzzles are given in random order, after solving the first puzzle another one will be randomly assigned.

Here are all the answers to the second set of Sphinx riddles.

Competition riddle

The Sphinx spawns a fighter and requires the player to equip a Ring of Derision, which greatly weakens their attacks.

Response: To solve this puzzle, players must stagger towards the opponent, then carry and throw them off the cliff.

Award : Ring of Ambition – Increases XP gains when players defeat enemies.

The puzzle of differentiation

“I’m looking for this man. If men are so distinctive, I’m sure you’ll meet him in no time.

The sphinx shows the image of a chubby, red-haired man in a white robe. Players should consult their history and NPC’s logbook to look for specific clues.

Response: The solution is a reference to Devil May Cry, where the Sphinx requires the player to bring with him an NPC named ” Dante » or « Vergil ». Dante has straight hair and a scar over his eye . It is located in the Checkpoint Rest Town market area. Vergil has wavy hair and the scar above his eye is spiky . Players can find it just past the gate to Checkpoint Rest Town. Once you find the right person, wear them and teleport to the Border Shrine to reveal the Sphinx.

Award : Whimsical Daydream – Trickster class weapon

Conundrum of futility

“I have here an amphora intended for Ser Maurits in Battahl. Give it to him, but be careful; it is quite fragile.

Response : Players must carry the amphora to the specified location. However, they cannot travel fast. And they cannot be attacked while holding it, or the amphora would break instantly. If the amphora breaks, the sphinx will leave and players will automatically fail the remaining puzzles.

Players must put down the amphora when there are enemies nearby and defeat them before picking it up.

Of course, an alternate option is to retrieve Ser Maurits from the Battahl and carry him to the amphora, and that will work as well for those not up for a pointless challenge.

Award : Eternal Bond – Give this ring to an NPC to greatly strengthen your relationship/affinity with them.
