While Château Mouton Rothschild may be relatively unknown to most, others may know it as the Beckhams’ favorite £3,000 red wine, and it’s even featured on this year’s Christmas dinner table.
That might sound out of the price range for most shoppers, but wine expert Sam Caporn has a great solution, as he claims Aldi is giving customers a touch of Beckham glamor at a fraction of the price. Pierre Jaurant Bordeaux (75cl, £5.29).
Sam, who is one of the world’s 416 Masters of Wine, says: “Both wines are Clarets from the Bordeaux region, made from blends of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
“The wines of this region have the taste of black and purple fruits, fine tannins and the spiciness of French oak. Both pair beautifully with red meat such as lamb or roast meat or game.
Claret is the name used to describe red wine from the Bordeaux region – popular with many celebrities, including the Beckhams, with a reputation for being expensive, ambitious and fine – so shoppers will be delighted to get their hands on a bottle at Aldi.
Aldi Pierre Jaurant Bordeaux is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Bordeaux region. Sam adds: “Aldi wine is incredibly good value. It is an exceptional wine with a lot of cinnamon spice on the nose and flavors of plums and morello cherries.
