After a night out, the crew returned to the boat drunk ready to sleep. Despite a flirty night with Joe, Ellie decided to go to bed. It’s like breaking the girl code on a random fucking guy. I’m upset about that.

In the morning, Bri immediately told Ellie about what happened and wanted to be straight with her manager. Ellie thought they were having sex, which they weren’t, and felt betrayed by Bri. “You don’t give a shit about me“, Ellie said, “It’s like breaking the girl code for a random fucking guy. I’m upset about that.“This statement seemed unfair given that Ellie would have loved to pursue something with Joe if given the chance.

As the next charter progressed, Ellie continued to mistreat Bri. He asserted his dominance as the second stew and took all the actions Bri took. Bri at her wits end went to Aesha warning her about Ellie’s care. He also decided to sleep on the floor in Joe’s cabin, adding to the tension between Bri and Ellie. Although he repeatedly apologized to his superior, Bri and Ellie seem ready for a full blown fight as the season continues.

Why Ellie doesn’t deserve to be upset

Bri didn’t break the girl code

While Ellie’s feelings are undoubtedly valid, she doesn’t deserve to tell Bri that she broke girl code. Joe showed interest in Bri and Ellie; he had no strong feelings for either. Ellie and Bri were also not close friends and just put up with each other in Mustique. Bri didn’t go behind Ellie’s back and steal her boyfriend or even a random situation. They both work on the same yacht with limited opportunities for romantic interaction. The alcohol was flowing after the charter, which likely influenced Bri’s decision to pursue a romantic connection with Joe.

Ellie may be upset that another woman went to war with Joe, but it’s unfair to say that Bri broke the girl code.

Ellie decided to go to bed and not pursue anything further with Joe and explained:I don’t want to do anything I’ll regret… He has to take me out to dinner (and) treat me like a lady. However, that is not what Joe would have considered. Joe is in Mustique to work as a deckhand and possibly enjoy a boat trip or two, but fails to find the love of his life. Ellie seems to misunderstand Joe’s attraction to her.

Although Bri and Ellie agree not to let the boy get between them, Bri doesn’t owe Ellie anything. His decision to reconcile with Joe certainly does not give Ellie the right to belittle and mistreat him on board during their professional duties. Ellie is hurt, but Bri didn’t break the girl code. He and Ellie were never friends Below deck, the Mediterranean Sea in the first place.
