Ben was given the chance to become a Bosun

At the start of the charter season, St. David’s welcomed a brand new Bosun to join the team. Captain Kerry felt good about hiring Jared Woodinknowing that he had experience with smaller vessels. He hoped the new Bosun would be able to handle the ins and outs of the superyacht, as he would lead the rest of the outside team and be the captain’s direct point of contact regarding what was going on beyond the bridge. Ben had been promoted to Lead Deckhand before joining Below decks season 11 started and Captain Kerry was happy to have him.


Unfortunately, Jared’s performance as the Bosun quickly became weak the first charter caused him enormous problems. Although Jared got past the initial problems he encountered on the St. David, he still made mistakes that made it clear he was not ready to be the Bosun on such a large ship. Mixed with some serious personal issues Jared was facing at home that kept his attention elsewhere, Captain Kerry eventually had no choice but to let Bosu go. He asked Ben, who he felt was capable, to take the Bosun forward.

Although Ben has not worked as a bosun on such a large ship, he has been able to quickly acclimate to the St. David. leading Jared, Ben blended in seamlessly with the outside crew. He quickly took charge, organizing and delegating tasks among the other Deckhands while they waited for someone else to join the crew. In charge of Marie “Sunny” Marquis and Kyle Stillie, Ben was able to navigate one of the toughest charters of the season with no problems and impressed Captain Kerry with his skills.
