Daredevil: Born Again is the first solo outing for Charlie Cox’s Man Without Fear since his reintroduction to the MCU. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming Disney+ show, including its release date, cast, plot, and more.

Charlie Cox first portrayed Daredevil in the Netflix series of the same name, which debuted back in 2015 – almost a decade ago. He later reprised the role in two further seasons, as well as in crossover series The Defenders.

Netflix canceled its Daredevil series in 2018, calling the MCU futures of both Cox and his character into question. But after years of fan lobbying, Marvel Studios finally included a cameo by Cox as Daredevil’s civilian alter-ego, Matt Murdock, in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.

He then appeared as both Murdock and Daredevil in 2022 Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, paving the way for his full-fledged solo comeback in Daredevil: Born Again. So, with that in mind, here’s what we know about the show so far.

Is there a Daredevil: Born Again release date?

Daredevil: Born Again doesn’t currently have a release date.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige indicated at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 that Daredevil: Born Again would drop on Disney+ in Spring 2024.

However, Daredevil: Born Again is no longer targeting an early-mid 2024 release window after Marvel Studios fired Daredevil: Born Again head writers Matt Corman and Chris Ord. The pair were “quietly let go” in October 2023, as part of a wider “creative reboot” of the series.

What’s more, the 2023 WGA strike derailed Daredevil: Born Again’s original shooting schedule, further contributing to the show’s delayed release. That said, in a January 2024 interview with Collider, star Vincent D’Onofrio assured fans that Daredevil: Born Again was now back on track.

“We’re having a really good time right now,” he said. “We’re getting back up. We’re gonna start soon, hopefully sooner than later, and Charlie [Cox] and I feel like the right vibe is there.”

D’Onofrio also spoke highly of newly-appointed showrunner Dario Scardapane. “I think all the powers out there that control… the MCU also believe that we’re in the right place right now… we’ve got Dario who’s an incredible writer who wrote The Punisher,” he said. “We’re in a very happy place right now.”

Is there a Daredevil: Born Again trailer?

No, Marvel Studios and Disney+ haven’t released a trailer for Daredevil Born Again yet.

What’s more, given the recent behind-the-scenes shake-ups and filming delays, you shouldn’t expect a trailer anytime soon, either. However, if you’re looking for a fresh fix of Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, both appear in the Hawkeye spinoff series Echo.

Aside from these official cast members, there’s also speculation that Tatiana Maslany will appear as Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk. Charlie Cox addressed the possibility of Maslany’s involvement in a December 2022 interview with Metro, indicating he’s on board with the idea.

“I’ve made it no secret that I’m a huge fan of Tatiana’s, and the fun we had on She-Hulk was some of the best fun I’ve had as that character,” he said. “I thought she was amazing as Jennifer Walters, and I would be a huge… certainly an advocate of her showing up in our show if she’s free and available and willing and all of those things. So I would love for that to happen. I have no idea if that is possible.”

While initially it appeared that two of Cox’s other past co-stars, Daredevil’s Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson, wouldn’t be back – According to The Hollywood Reporter, the duo weren’t invited to reprise their Netflix roles – but that has reportedly been rectified.

However, Daredevil veteran Ayelet Zurer has been replaced by Sandrine Holt as Kingpin’s wife Vanessa Fisk in Daredevil: Born Again.

Daredevil: Born Again plot: What will it be about?

Marvel Studios and Disney+ are yet to release an official Daredevil: Born Again plot synopsis.

That said, it’s possible (but far from certain) that the show will take its cues from the seminal 80s comic book storyline of the same name. In that tale, the Kingpin learns Daredevil’s secret identity and uses this information to destroy Matt Murdock’s life.

What’s more, recent rumors suggest that Daredevil: Born Again could adapt another arc from the comics: Kingpin’s New York City mayoral campaign. In the show, this campaign will supposedly focus on cracking down on costumed vigilantes like Daredevil.

Another persistent rumor concerns Daredevil: Born Again’s wider roster of villains. According to established scooper Daniel Richtman, Kingpin will play second fiddle to another antagonist: Muse. It’s worth noting that this artistically-inclined serial killer’s involvement isn’t officially confirmed, however.

But regardless of how Daredevil: Born Again Season 1’s story unfolds or who its villains are, one thing is clear: it’ll lay the groundwork for Season 2. D’Onofrio said as much in an interview with Newsweek, promising a massive, two-season narrative is on the way. “[B]y the second season, there are gigantic, gigantic payoffs – in the first season, too, but I can’t say much about that – but the fans are gonna really get what they want.”

Daredevil: Born Again – What’s the story so far?

If you haven’t kept up with all of Matt Murdock’s live-action adventures, here’s a round-up of his exploits to date, from Netflix’s Daredevil to Disney+’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

Daredevil Season 1

Netflix’s Daredevil Season 1 sets the foundations for its titular character. We meet his close friend Foggy Nelson, future colleague Karen Page, and mentor, Stick. We also encounter Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, a ruthless crime boss attempting to claim Hell’s Kitchen and the city at large for his own. Thankfully, Daredevil prevails and sends Fisk to prison by the time the season wraps.

Daredevil Season 2

In Daredevil Season 2, a crazed vigilante known as The Punisher is out to bring down the mob, one gangster at a time. While The Punisher’s devotion to justice is similar to Daredevil’s own, they clash over the former’s lethal methods. Season 2 also pits Daredevil against a mysterious organization known as The Hand, which is tied to Matt Murdock’s old flame, Elektra Natchios.

Daredevil Season 3

Despite his apparent death in Netflix’s crossover series The Defenders, Matt Murdock turns up alive but severely wounded in Daredevil Season 3. While he recovers, Wilson Fisk negotiates a deal with the FBI to protect his wife, Vanessa.

Eventually, Fisk is freed from prison and begins rehabilitating his public image. He also enlists the services of troubled NYPD officer Benjamin ‘Dex’ Poindexter (a.k.a. Bullseye) to bump off Daredevil. Fortunately, Matt ultimately overcomes both men when Season 3 concludes.
