With A Level results day fast approaching, students across the UK are waiting in anticipation to find out how they have performed in their exams.
Results are due on Thursday 17 August and, once they land, many students could well be revaluating their options and entering the Clearing process.
Clearing provides students with a chance to find university places that have yet to be filled and is useful for those who don’t currently have an offer from a university, those who don’t get the grades they were expecting, those who have not previously applied to university, or anyone who is considering changing location or course.
Liverpool Hope University already has a dedicated Clearing hotline set up for those wishing to make a head start in the process and this is why you should give them a call.
A simple process
Liverpool Hope’s Clearing hotline makes applying through Clearing easy and stress free.
Their friendly team will guide you through the process during a five minute phone call where you will need to provide your basic information, including name, date of birth and address, as well as your current qualifications and any outstanding university offers.
During that call the majority of students will find out whether Liverpool Hope can make you an offer, whilst others may be required to take part in an interview or audition process.
Once you have received an offer, Liverpool Hope will send you a confirmation email which will detail how you can apply to the University as well as providing access to their Clearing Portal, which offers advice and guidance on what you need to do next.
Good choice of courses
Liverpool Hope University offer flexible learning depending on your circumstances, with full or part-time courses available.
The University offers more than 1,300 subject combinations, providing the opportunity to study traditional combinations such as business management and marketing as well as less common subjects.
Current student Olivia Kitchen-Dunn, from Huddersfield, opted for the unusual mix of law & musical theatre, a course which has provided a plethora of opportunities in and out of the classroom.
“I’ve always wanted to study law because I find the subject really interesting,” said the 22-year-old.
“When I learned that Liverpool Hope were opening a musical theatre course that I could combine with law it just seemed like the perfect fit. I’m now going into third year and couldn’t recommend studying a dual degree more.
“The benefits are vast because I have so many opportunities in terms of socialising, the choice of work and career options”.
Mature students are welcome
Liverpool Hope accepts Access to Higher Education diplomas for entry to an undergraduate course. These are popular with mature learners who don’t have traditional qualifications and the University also considers work experience as part of your application.
Mature learners benefit from specific support and events for those who are not living on campus to help them get to know their classmates and get a feel for university life.
Finance
The Liverpool Hope Clearing experts will be available to answer all your questions, tailored to your personal circumstances, about tuition fees for Undergraduate degrees starting in September 2023, along with funding information and information about the support available from the government.
Accommodation
All the rooms in Hope Park halls are reserved for first year and foundation degree students. There are a range of options depending on budget. You can book a campus tour via Hope student tour guides on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Foundation degrees
The Degree with Foundation year is a great opportunity if you have the ability and enthusiasm to study for a degree, but either do not yet have the qualifications required or want to experience university life before selecting a specific degree
Emma Ellis proved it’s never too late to learn after completing a foundation degree that has set her on course for her dream job. The 44-year-old graduated in health and social care in July and has now embarked on a Masters in social work with the aim of forging a career working with older people.
More than 20 years had passed since Emma had sat her GCSEs, but her foundation year proved to be the ideal stepping stone to degree-level study.
“Without the foundation year I might not have gone through first year,” she said.
“It provided the necessary skills I needed and the university supported me throughout my studies. I only had basic IT skills, as computers were not available when I was in school, but I learnt a lot in the foundation year and by the end of my degree, it was second nature to me.”
Students love their clearing experience
Clearing can seem like a daunting experience for some, but as Grace Borg experienced, it ended up being one of the best things that could have happened to her.
She said: “I had originally applied to study media and communication at a mixture of universities across the country.
“I didn’t do as well in my A Levels as I expected, but I am still very proud of my results. I did initially think that my dream of going to university was over, but my Head of Sixth Form showed me the UCAS Clearing page, which listed all of the universities that were still accepting places for the course I was wanting to study.
“I’ve always loved visiting Liverpool, so when I saw Liverpool Hope University I knew that I wanted to give them a call. As this was a stressful and emotional time for my family and I, the warm response I received on the other end of the phone made the process so much easier.
“It was this lovely response that made me really want to go to Hope. I received my offer straight away and within a couple of days, my room was also confirmed.
“If I could say anything to those who are entering Clearing, it would be to not panic. I know it’s easier said than done, but when I thought my chances of going to university were over, Clearing gave me another chance. Hope was the perfect choice for me.”
