When we think of London summer festivals, the mind can easily go towards dancing in a field, but it would be remiss of us to forget about what goes on indoors at the Southbank Centre in the form of the Meltdown Festival.

Each year, a legendary artist is tasked with curating a unique and cutting-edge lineup, and this year the keys have been handed to Chaka Khanwho just so happens to be celebrating 50 years in a glittering career. She is taking the reins for the 29th Meltdown festival, following in the footsteps of Grace Jones, Robert Smith, David Bowie, Patti Smith, and, of course, Christine And The Queen, who curated last year’s event.

Chaka Khan’s Meltdown Festival will take place between June 14 – June 23 in the summer, and the first names on her lineup are set to be announced in March. The announcement cames after a big 2023 for Chaka Khan, having been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. And let’s be honest: we’ve all belted out the words to I’m Every Woman at the top of our lungs on a dancefloor more than a few times, so many of us will be waiting with bated breath to see who is on the bill for the 2024 edition of Meltdown.

Speaking on the announcement, Chaka Khan said: “Get ready to experience the heart and soul of Meltdown 2024where the magic of music meets the warmth of community. I’m beyond excited to be a part of this legacy, bringing everyone together, young and old, for a summer celebration like no other.

“This festival isn’t just about music, it’s a feast for all your senses, a gathering of hearts and souls. The Southbank Centre’s about to light up! We’re going to funk it up, rock every crowd, and touch every soul. It’s a community celebration, an all-ages bash. Join us and immerse yourself in a world that’s vibrant, diverse, and absolutely unforgettable.”
