Celebrity chef James Martin revealed this week that he will be taking a break from his career while he undergoes cancer treatment. The chef revealed earlier this year that he was diagnosed with facial cancer in 2018 and must undergo regular treatment as it has ‘returned on several occasions.’

Speaking at a show in Liverpool while on tour, he announced to the audience that he will be taking a break while he focuses on getting his cancer diagnosis ‘sorted’.

In a heartfelt message, he said: ‘On a personal note, I just wanted to say thank you for 30 years of television. For me personally, I’ve been through a lot of s**t with cancer but I’m getting sorted at the end of next month.’

He goes on to say: ‘I will be back fighting at the end of February but I’m going on a little bit of a break to get that sorted. I just wanted to say thank you for all your support and all your messages.’

Martin has been travelling the UK on his tour in which he entertains audiences with live cooking demonstrations and music performances from his band, Midnight Ramblers.

Earlier this year, the chef announced the news about his cancer diagnosis within a public apology on Instagram, in which he addressed reports about bullying and intimidating behaviour while filming for James Martin’s Saturday Morning.

The post read: ‘I would like to publicly and sincerely apologise to the crew involved in this incident, as I did at the time’.

Following details about the challenging events he was experiencing during that period of his life, including losing his grandparents and his house being both burgled and flooded, he concluded: ‘I can only say I am human and following a build-up of personal life pressure, I admit that I overreacted regarding the damage to my home.’
