For fans and audiences wanting to know more about Disney Animation’s 2023 release, Wishhere’s a comprehensive list of characters from the studio’s latest film.
The film is led by Asha, a young woman who accidentally summons a mighty shooting star to help her reclaim the wishes stolen by Magnifico, King of the Rosas.
Wish The director previously told The Direct that lead character Asha has “Passion and zeal and strength for him” like many previous Disney heroes. But what really makes him “unique” this is how they could “(bring) in Ariana DeBose.”
But west side story the actress is far from the only talented star to join in on the fun.
Meet the Cast of Disney’s Wish Movie
Ariana DeBose – Asha
Ariana DeBose brings to life the charming, sharp and determined Asha. He values his family and community, and as the story begins, hopes to become King Mangificio’s apprentice.
Asha also really hopes that her hundred-year-old Sabino will finally get her wish on her birthday.
In the film’s press release, director Chris Buck described the main character Wish like “energetic,” “enthusiastic,” and “driven:”
“Asha is an energetic – and enthusiastic member of her community who proudly showcases this incredible place where she grew up. He is a believer. He’s willing to do what’s right for Rosas, which really kicks in when he learns the king’s true plans for most of the wishes he possesses.
DeBose is known for his time west side story, Schmigado!and Westworld. She also stars as Calypso in an upcoming Sony Pictures film Hunter of the Krave.
Chris Pine – King Magnifico
Chris Pine plays King Magnifico, Rosas’ most powerful man and villain Wish. The king practices magic and promises to fulfill his subjects’ wishes in monthly ceremonies.
However, he doesn’t tell everyone that Magnifico isn’t going to grant many of his wishes, which he takes away, claiming some are far too dangerous to make true. When the powerful Star enters the picture, the King begins to fall down the rabbit hole of forbidden magic.
Character art director Bill Schwab stated in the film’s press release that “It was really exciting to design a real villain” calling King Magnifico by name “super just” and “self absorbed:”
“It was really exciting to design a real villain… The directors always wanted him to be very attractive, body-conscious and dynamic. We really played up her shock about her hair, as she probably spends a lot of time in the mirror. He is super vain. He is very stubborn. But he looks like a winner.
Pine was last inside Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and acted before A wonder woman and Star Trek.
Alan Tudyk – Valentino
Valentino, voiced by Alan Tudyk, is Asha’s trusty goat friend who gains the ability to speak thanks to Star. She is both confident and imaginative and adds a lot of heart and laughs to the film.
According to Fawn Veerasunthorn in a press release, Valentino “it’s a big theme in this movie:”
“He carries a big theme in this film… He loves to climb, but he’s not very good at it – he keeps falling down. But he refuses to be discouraged, saying: ‘With every fall I learn. I’ll just keep going.”
Tudyk has lent his talents to many projects in the past, including Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Moana, Harley Quinnand Firefly.
Angelique Cabral – Amaya
Amaya is King Magnifico’s loving and devoted wife and his trusted henchman. When the king begins to be tempted by forbidden magic, he begins to doubt her leadership.
Director Fawn Veerasunthorn explained in a press release that she “Rules this kingdom with compassion and respect for the people:
“She rules this kingdom with compassion and respect for the people. She encourages everyone to follow their hopes and dreams and be kind to each other, and we love that about Queen Amaya.”
Other Cabral projects include e.g Life in pieces, Enlistedand Friends with benefits.
Victor Garber – I’m not afraid
Sabino, the father of Asha’s late father, is brought to life by Victor Garber. She is a hundred years old, and Asha hopes to finally get her wish granted in a ceremony.
In the film’s press release, director Chris Buck stated that Garber was quoting “Her own warmth, likeability and charm to the character:”
“We want the audience to root for Sabino to get her wish – finally!… Victor Garber does so from the moment we meet Sabino. He lends his own warmth, likability and charm to the character and makes the sweet relationship between Asha and her grandfather shine. Victor also brings class to Sabino and strength.
Many remember the actor from his days Alias and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. He was also involved Titanic, Argoand Legally blonde.
Natasha Rothwell – Sizzle
Sakina is Asha’s loving and supportive mother alongside Sabino. Natasha Rothwell voices the creative character who also happens to be Valentino’s pajama pins.
Animation manager Rebecca Wilson explained how the character “reminds (her) of (her) mother, who is very supportive.” He added that too “Sakina is very supportive of Asha – she wants her to do great things.”
Jennifer Kumiyama – Dahlia
Jennifer Kumiyama’s Dahlia is one of Asha’s most important friends and a talented baker who has a huge crush on King Magnifico. Unofficially, she is the leader of Asha’s larger group of friends.
Director Chris Buck explained that Dahlia is “methodist” and praises Asha:
“Dahlia and Asha complement each other… Dahlia is methodical – the kind of person who stops and assesses a situation, while Asha is full speed ahead.”

Harvey Guillén – Gabo
Harvey Guillén plays Gabo, Asha’s friend who was inspired by Grumpy. He’s quick-burning and a harsh cynic – although he secretly has a heart of gold.
Screenwriter Allison Moore described the character in a press release as “crowd realist” who is “want to tell friends the hard truth about life.”
Guillén recently acted Blue beetle and it can also be seen What we do in the shadows, Mickey Mouse funhouse, Puss in Boots: The Last Wishand more.
Niko Vargas – Hal
Hall is Asha’s friend who is forever happy and always brings a little joy to every situation. He is voiced by actor Niko Vargas.
writer Allison Moore shared this “Even if (Hal) is really nervous or scared, he’ll smile.”
Vargas can also be seen briefly Craig of the Creek and Wrench.
Evan Peters – Simon
Simon, played by Evan Peters, is one of Asha’s quieter friends who is always a bit sleepy and seems to be down on his luck. He wants to be a warrior who protects the King of Rosas.
Allison Moore summed up Simon by saying how “he’s a bit of a gentle giant.”
Peters brought Peter Maximoff to life at Fox X man films and also appeared in Marvel Studios’ first Disney+ series, WandaVision.
Ramy Youssef – Safi
Ramy Youssefin Safi, another member of Asha’s group of friends, suffers from allergies and constantly notices her sneezing.
Director Veerasunthorn told how they “Wanted his hat to pop off when he sneezes and then settle back on his head – just like the 2D hand drawn character (Sneezy).”
Youssef starred in three seasons framework and also played a role Poor things and Mr. Robot.
Jon Rudnitsky – Dario
Asha’s friend Dario, played by Jon Rudnitsky, is an easy-to-love, rosy-faced young man inspired by Dopey.
Story Manager Mark Kennedy noted how Dario “lives in his own world” but is also “Unexpectedly brilliant:”
“Dario has a big heart, but he lives in his own world. Every now and then, though, he’ll say something unexpectedly brilliant, and everyone’s like, “What’s going on?”

Della Saba – The best of Della Saba
Della Saba’s Bazeema is shy, full of surprises and always keeping an eye on everyone from afar. He is also part of Asha’s group of friends.
In the film’s press release, co-director Veerasunthorn revealed that the character is “introvert:”
“He’s an introvert… That’s why he doesn’t jump in and participate enthusiastically. I feel like we know more about extroverts and introverts these days. We want to make room for everyone, and Bazeema’s friends accept her for who she is.
