Call the Midwife’s Helen George looks unrecognisable in a new pictures she shared as she said goodbye to a much loved role. Best known for her long-running character Trixie on the popular BBC drama about midwives in Poplar, Helen is usually on our screens as a blonde bombshell.

In the post shared on Instagram the hairstyle and colour is world’s away from her character Trixie as she took the moment to say goodbye to a role. In the post she said: “Goodbye, dear Anna, I shall miss you.”

Despite the rumour-mill flying about whether Helen George will be leaving Call the Midwife as her character could be set to jet off to the US, it’s clear the only role she’s officially saying goodbye to is Anna. For those who haven’t been keeping up to date with her time on the West End, George has been starring in a production of The King and I, which is coming to an end.

Fans were quick to share their praise for George’s performance in the musical, friend and musician Vikki Stone said: “So proud! Who’d have thought that our postgrad diploma in musical theatre would actually come in handy.”

Another said: “Thankyou for the music. I enjoyed it so much” While a third added: “Have an amazing last 2 shows! You should be very proud of yourself, you have absolutely smashed the part of Anna, you have been utterly incredible!!”

The King and I tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher.

The actress plays the teacher who is hired by the King of Siam to educate his many wives and children.

Speaking to The Standard, Helen said: “The corset makes me work hard. It’s actually really good for singing, it kind of really supports you in a way. The dresses are enormous and heavy. They’re wide.”

Anna is a role that Helen has played before but she still had to put the work in so that she was physically fit for it. She said: “You really do need to train like an athlete, and you have to take care of yourself and you have to warm up. It’s a big show.”
