A quick look at the mysterious teaser website linked in the post above tells us all we need to know – that this is indeed hinting at Black Ops 6.

Before we dive into all the release date rumours and more, you might want to keep up to date with what’s happening in the current CoD and MW3 Season 4.

With all that in mind, here’s everything we know so far about the next Call of Duty, including suggested plot details, what’s happening with Zombies mode and when we might find out more.

Is Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War the new CoD?

A new report suggests that Call of Duty 2024, the first since Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision, will be set during the Gulf War, according to sources verified by Windows Central.

Additionally, multiple sources have shared that it is “being heavily referred to internally” by the codename Black Ops 6, with the official title expected to be Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War.

What’s more, the mysterious teaser site TheTruthLies.com certainly suggests the new CoD will indeed be Black Ops 6 thanks to that logo, what looks like declassified footage and the fact there are six channels. Hmm…

Back to it being named and about the Gulf War.

Plot details suggest that the new Call of Duty will be “focused on the CIA” during the Gulf War with the plot examining “the United States’ role in the conflict”. It will then follow on from 2020’s Black Ops Cold War, which was set in the 1980s, with the Gulf War taking place in the 1990s.

CoD fans looking for a more traditional experience will be pleased to learn that the rumours are pointing towards the new Black Ops leaning “back into more traditional military combat technology and familiar Black Ops gadgetry”.

It’s expected that some of the West’s “military dealing” between the US and UK in its conflict with Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, which led to soldiers being deployed into the country, will feature in some manner. Specifically, the end of the Cold War era will be explored.

It’s noted that Black Ops Gulf War has been “the longest development time Treyarch has ever put into a Call of Duty title it’s leading”, indicating that this could be a sizeable narrative.

If there’s one area that fans will be looking for an improvement in over Modern Warfare 3, it’s the single-player campaign. To many, the campaign in MW3 has been considered far too short, feeling more like an expansion pass than a full-blown sequel.

Another report (via Inside Gaming) believes that a large number of classic maps from the Black Ops series of games will be available to play in Call of Duty 2024. Some maps mentioned include Grind and WMD.

A round-based Zombie mode has also been brought up, due to game file leaks – though those details appear to be less finalised.

Call of Duty 2024 release date speculation

Call of Duty. Activision

No official release date has been announced by Activision for Call of Duty 2024.

A target date of late fall/early winter 2024 was shared by Windows Central in a report. This does seem likely, considering every mainline Call of Duty game has launched in either October or November since the series began in 2003.

The latest Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3, arrived on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, as well as last-gen consoles such as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Whether this is the case again is yet to be determined following Microsoft’s purchase of Activision.

An exclusive report by The Wall Street Journal has suggested that the new CoD will launch day one on Game Pass. Hey, Microsoft didn’t buy Activision to not put Call of Duty on Game Pass, did it?

We’d imagine the game will be revealed as part of the Xbox Games showcase on 9th June during Summer Game Fest 2024. The teaser trailer at the top of this page is just stage one of the juggernaut marketing campaign that will be behind Black Ops 6.

As soon as we know more about the new Call of Duty for 2024 (which almost definitely will be Black Ops 6), we’ll be sure to update this page.
