You may be running the London Marathon this weekend. Or you may have a friend who is running it. If you have time between training to read this article or you can get a word in with your friend when they’re not out training or telling you how hard training is to send it to them, then it should be known that ALL London marathon runners will be entitled to free dips at Brockwell Lido for two weeks after the event.

A cold water plunge is sure to be just the tonic for those aching limbs, those tired minds. And between April 20 – May 4 all the recovery sessions you need in the pool can be done so long as you have actually run the marathon (remember your proof of entry, people).

Brockwell Lido free dips

Why free cold water dips? Well, it’s all in the name of recovering from the big 26.2 miles excursion that is the marathon. Cold water swimming has been found to improve circulation and encourage blood flow through the body to ease soreness and inflammation that will be lingering around after the legs have taken a battering. Over at Brockwell Lido, there are also two new outdoor saunas so you can move like a true athlete in the contrast recovery methods.

Speaking on the cold water swimming concept, Lisa Travers, Wim Hof Breath and Ice Instructor and Brockwell Lido’s Cold-Water Expert, said: “Cold water immersion offers an unparalleled boost for both mind and body. Immersing yourself in cold water can trigger a 250% dopamine release in the brain(1), creating a natural high that uplifts mood and combats stress.”

The London Marathon takes place this Sunday, April 20. If you run it, you can bag free dips in Brockwell Lido for recovery purposes by showing proof of entry or completion, which will be applied to your account. This runs between April 20 – May 4, and you can find out more about Brockwell Lido here.
