Last summer, news emerged that Boxpark Shoreditch – one branch of the multiple London venues of the same name – was due to close after 12 years of serving up street food and hosting events for 12 years. However, it now seems that the show will be going on (for now) at the original Boxpark location.

The site has secured a short-term leaseand according to the site Restaurants Onlinethe brand is ‘positive’ about the ongoing negotiations to extend this even further.

There is no word on when this new short-term lease will run out, nor how close they are to securing any other extensions. But, for now, it’s encouraging news for the site that provides a watering hole for those who love to watch sports and chomp down on street food and beers.

After taking over the crates at Camden’s Buck Street MarketBoxpark now has four open venues in the capital, with Croydon and Wembley particularly famed for their sporting event shenanigans, as well as plenty of other musical nights, open mic nights, and more across the year. They opened their first site outside of London (in Liverpool) last year, and are showing no signs of stopping the momentum this year either, with a site due to open up in Birmingham, as well as their first Boxhall sites coming to London and Bristol.

Boxpark Shoreditch was, almost unbelievably, always meant to be here on a temporary basis, so the fact it’s remained in the city after first opening in 2011 as a pop-up is a testament to its popularity and impact. It lives on for now, but the group Bishopsgate Goodyard had planned to turn the site into a site hosting new homes, office space and a park – and it remains to be seen whether this goes ahead in the near future.

You’ll find Boxpark Shoreditch at 2-10 Bethnal Green Road, E1 6GY (nearest station is Shoreditch High Street). Other Boxpark locations can be found in Croydon, Wembley, and Camden.
