Boxpark, the popular shipping container leisure concept, has successfully secured planning permission for a new site in Digbeth, Birmingham.

Boxpark plans to open a £5m food court in 2025, located below the four Floodgate Street Arches. The large space covers almost 17,000 square meters.

Plans for a new Boxpark canteen in Digbeth were first announced in October 2023.

The 15-year lease includes 10 kitchen units and four interior beams for two floors. Additionally, it has 10,500 square feet of outdoor space designed for outdoor dining and events.

Boxpark Birmingham is dedicated to highlighting local independent traders and showcasing artists, creatives and performers from the surrounding community.

This development follows the launch of Boxpark’s first regional site in Liverpool in April this year, with further plans underway for its sister brand Boxhall Bristol.

Ben McLaughlin, Chief Operating Officer of Boxpark, said: “We are delighted to have received planning permission and are excited to be progressing with the opening of our new site in this vibrant city. This is a big project for the team and our aim is to carefully restore the Floodgate Street Arches and give it a new lease of life.

“Digbeth’s diverse and creative business community fits perfectly with our ethos of supporting and championing local, independent talent. This marks an exciting new chapter for Boxpark and we look forward to contributing to the continued growth of the area.

Founded in 2011, Boxpark has successfully opened three locations in London located in Shoreditch, Croydon, Wembley and its latest addition in Camden.
