If you’re a hotdog fan who likes the idea of getting your chops into something gloriously filthy, read on. Filthy Dog is a deliciously dirty concept restaurant from Michelin-starred fine-dining chef Isaac Bartlett-Copeland behind the excellent wood-burning restaurant Embers and his previously much-loved (and missed) Isaac At. And we’re happy to say that Filthy Dogs does not disappoint.

The menu for the kitchen residency at punk’s East Street Tap is full of hotdog-shaped naughtiness. But these aren’t just any ordinary hotdogs. These are lovingly produced, ground and smoked sausages with high quality meat from Calcot Farm in West Sussex. Think flavor-packed dogs, but without the bias.

But hang in there, meatless friends! This place is not just for carnivores. The menu offers vegans and carnivores alike an awesome selection of nine-inch dogs (the vegan ones are Brook Farm mushrooms and tofu) smothered in a variety of decadent sauces and cheeky toppings, each tucked like a baby in softer brioche buns (from Newhaven’s Falcone Bakery).

We went for the Embers special guest dog (inspired by Embers in the Lanes, of course), which included Embers’ secret recipe vadouva mayo, classic sauerkraut, French cilantro and crispy onions. And to balance out the universe, we also had a vegan cheese dog piled high with Filthy Dog’s signature vegan cheese (10/10 for this one), malted yeast flakes and crispy onions. We loved them both.

The hotdogs are accompanied by an array of super sides, from loaded fries to crunchy slaws and a secret recipe cheddar and jalapeño cornbread that was, quite frankly, divine. There’s also a huge selection of sauces to dive into, from velvety black truffle vegan mayo (a chef’s kiss) to smoked jalapeño honey.

Want more? There’s more. We finished it off with a warm, vegan American-style chocolate chip cookie. It was dense and delicious and gooey, and we’re basically still thinking about it.

Everything about Filthy Dog screams quality. The food, service and everything has the expertise and dedication that can only come from a chef of Isaac’s caliber. So, good luck to us, happy Brighton, happy taste buds. And luckily, eating here won’t break the bank either – dogs are priced between £6.90 and £9.90, and even with the addition of a couple of fair and well-priced sides, you can easily have a seriously good meal. to right side £15. And there’s also a tasty spin-off of cool accessories (see the t-shirt and cap designed by Isaac himself above).

Needless to say, we’ll be back for more of those nine-inch cookies (like the brilliantly named and slightly naughty Hugh Grant – pickled apple, creamy Stilton, Ritz crackers, crunchy sage) and chocolate chip cookies for more lip smacking. -a good one that definitely needs a napkin or three.
