The Return of Sergeant Frank Woods Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has left some fans wondering how he found himself confined to a wheelchair.

Woods is an icon Call of Duty‘s Black Ops sub-franchise starring in four of the six games.

Once seen going all in on the action, his most recent role in Activision’s 2024 outing Black Ops 6 leaving him in a wheelchair in a supporting role.

Woods’ wheelchair in Black Ops 6 explained

The sight of Frank Woods in a wheelchair is nothing new for a long time Call of Duty players, as the Vietnam veteran was found to be a cripple in his twilight years Black Ops 2 campaign that will take place in 2025.

In time Black Ops 2a near future story began, Woods was 95 years old and living in a CIA nursing home called “The Vault.”

From “The Vault,” Woods was approached by David Mason — the son of his war buddy Alex, whom he raised after his father’s death — to talk about their past encounters Black Ops 2 villain Raul Menendez.

Interestingly, it was this past with Menendez that crippled Woods when he captured him in Panama in 1989 – pictured Black Ops 2 campaign level “Suffer with me”.

At age 59, Woods traveled to Panama with Alex Mason to capture Manuel Noriega, a high-value target with ties to the Menendez arms trade.

During this mission, Woods was able to blind Menendez with a shot to the eye before being tricked into shooting and killing Mason.

Finally, in a past mission, Menendez shot Woods in both knees, leaving him paralyzed for life, which explains why he can be seen in a wheelchair in his scenes Black Ops 6.

After his crippling injury, Woods was offered a desk job at the CIA where he would meet Black Ops 6 the characters Troy Marshall and Jane Harrow, both of whom he continued to work closely with in different roles (read more Black Ops 6 campaign here).
