Dimple Amani
Dimple Amani’s ethereal west London spa opened in 2025, and it’s perhaps one of the most aesthetically beautiful treatment spaces I’ve set foot in in the city. Soft lighting complements clay-coloured walls, dried flowers and brushed gold mirror frames, and candles burn by reception, emitting earthy scents that set the tone for 60 minutes of deep relaxation. Lymphatic drainage is the speciality here, so much so that Dimple has created her own ‘method’ to achieve results. Drawing from traditional Ayurvedic wellness therapies and taking a holistic approach to massage, her therapists use tools and techniques that effectively sculpt and shape various parts of the body. I booked in for the full-body treatment, which promised to leave me with glowing skin, eliminate toxins from my body, and make me feel lighter, less bloated, and more toned. From start to finish, the experience felt incredibly indulgent, incredibly effective, and incredibly memorable. I love that the method here includes more than just massage – ayurvedic oils, teas and the promotion of wellbeing from the inside out is embedded in the experience. Not only that, but the results were also visible, and as I floated back to the tube station, I made a promise to myself to return the next time I truly needed a dose of self-care. Sarah Jane Watson
I head over to Sarah Jane Watson’s West London home in the humid press of a June afternoon and amid the month’s usual crazed carousel of events that had left me, if not burnt out, then wired and vibrating like a tuning fork. But when I emerge 90 minutes later, I feel as loose and serene as a balloon in the breeze. Watson trained with massage pioneer Clare Maxwell-Hudson in the 1990s, and in the intervening three decades has refined her practice into a true art, blending Swedish, Balinese, Hawaiian, acupressure, and Indian head massage techniques with her training in Ashtanga yoga and dance. Her promise of a bespoke experience that lulls her subjects into a “deep state of rest” has garnered her a loyal stable of clients, both starry and grounded. Still, it’s her talent for making me feel like an individual rather than a body on a table that differentiates Watson from other massage therapists I’ve encountered. When I arrive, we discuss my energy levels and acknowledge the vulnerability of putting oneself in someone’s hands, and she reassures me that I can speak up at any time if I feel uncomfortable. It’s an unnecessary caveat; she kneads, rolls and presses my crackling joints with a level of intuition that requires no adjustments, spraying cooling droplets of aromatherapy blends over my body to a soundtrack of tinkling bells. At one point, I almost certainly fall asleep; at another, my desk-bound creature-self feels like it leaves my body as she manipulates my neck and shoulders. “It’s a privilege to touch someone in this intimate way, especially when we rarely touch other people in our day-to-day lives,” Watson tells me. Likewise, it’s a privilege to be touched by someone so dedicated to their craft – and a reminder that human touch is always worth investing in. Olivia Squire
