London’s West End is more booming than ever, with musicals and classic plays filling its theatres. While some shows have bid farewell in 2023, there are plenty of new shows ready to welcome fans next year.

Popular favourites like Wicked, Hamilton, Frozen, and The Lion King are taking bookings well into 2024. They’re staples of the West End, and we’ve rounded up the cost of each one.

Hadestown

Eurydice, tired of living in poverty, goes to work in the Greek underworld to escape the cold and poverty as her lover, Orpheus, attempts to rescue her. Hadestown is a musical retelling of the ancient Greek myth. Hadestown is running at the Lyric Theatre from February 10, 2024 to August 4, 2024. Tickets start at £25.

The Unfriend

The Unfriend is back for a second West End run. This time it’s starring award-winning comedian Lee Mack alongside Sarah Alexander and Frances Barber. The play, written by power duo Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, follows couple Peter and Debbie as they befriend a Trump-loving widow from America while on holiday. When she comes to visit, the poor couple learn she’s rather more murderous than they thought. The Unfriend is playing at Wyndham’s Theatre from December 16, 2023 to March 9, 2024. Tickets start at £25 from London Theatre Direct and Love Theatre.

Shrek The Musical

Our childhood favourite is being brought to life on stage in a fun-filled family affair. Shrek The Musical is playing at Eventim Apollo from July 19, 2024 to August 31, 2024. Tickets start at £24.

The Time Traveller’s Wife

Adapted from Audrey Niffenegger’s book, The Time Traveller’s Wife tells the story of Clare, a sculptor, and Henry, a time traveller. They’re separated by time, with Henry forever trying to get back to Clare. The Time Traveller’s Wife is playing at the Apollo Theatre from October 7, 2023 to March 30, 2024. Tickets start at £19.

The King And I

A true classic, The King And I is returning to the West End for a strictly limited six-week run. Based on the 1956 film, the musical follows widowed teacher Anna and her son as they move to Bangkok and she develops a heart warming relationship with the King. The King And I is playing at The Dominion Theatre from January 20, 2024 to March 2, 2024. Tickets start at £25.

The Devil Wears Prada

With music by Elton John, The Devil Wears Prada is possibly the most hotly-anticipated theatrical adaptation of the year. The film became a pop culture icon, and the musical adaptation has already played a run in Chicago. The Devil Wears Prada is playing at The Dominion Theatre from October 24, 2024. Tickets start at £31.

Pacific Overtures

Stephen Sondheim’s Pacific Overtures centres on the United States’ 1853 expedition to Japan. It explores culture clashes through a Western Lens in an Eastern manner, telling the story of a previously isolated Japan being introduced to new influences. Pacific Overtures is playing at Menier Chocolate Factory from November 25, 2023 to February 24, 2024. Tickets start at £48.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie



After a three-year West End run, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is back in the West End for a limited run. The hit musical follows Jamie New, a 16-year-old overcoming prejudice on a Sheffield council estate as he tries to fulfil his dream of becoming a drag queen. Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is playing at the Peacock Theatre from February 8, 2024 to March 23. Tickets start at £20.88.

Mean Girls

One of the most iconic teenage films is coming to the stage as The Plastics take over once more. It’s everything the film gave us, plus some cracking show tunes. Mean Girls begins its run on June 6, 2024, and is booking until October 2024. Tickets start at £25.

Your Lie In April

Your Lie in April tells the poignant story of Kōsei Arima, a young piano prodigy, and his inability to play following his mother’s death. He strikes a friendship with violinist Kaori Miyazono and she slowly encourages him to perform again. The musical comes from the team behind the hugely well-received Death Note The Musical. Your Lie In April is playing from April 8, 2024, to April 9, 2024. Tickets go on sale on December 1.

Returning and extended West End shows for 2023

MJ The Musical



Centred around the making of Michael Jackson’s 1992 Dangerous World Tour, MJ looks at the King of Pop’s creative mind and what catapulted him to legendary status. MJ The Musical is playing at Prince Edward Theatre, and tickets start at £25.

Mrs Doubtfire

Classic 90s comedy Mrs Doubtfire’s musical adaptation had a sell-out run in Manchester, and it’s been warmly received in London too. When voice actor Daniel sees his ex wife’s ad for a nanny, he transforms into the perfect one, becoming part of the family once more. Mrs Doubtfire is playing at Shaftesbury Theatre, and tickets start at £28.

Hamilton

Alexander Hamilton’s story as a founding father of the United States is unconventionally told in the Lin-Manuel Miranda musical. It uses hip-hop and rap to tell his – and America’s – story, and is so popular it has productions in the US, UK, Australia, Manila, Abu Dhabi, and Singapore. Hamilton is playing at Victoria Palace Theatre, and tickets start at £23.

Wicked



Why was the Wicked Witch of the West so evil? You’ll find out in Wicked, the musical about Elphaba’s origin story and her relationship with Glinda The Good. Wicked is playing at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, and tickets start at £25.

Back To The Future The Musical

The Back To The Future film franchise lends itself surprisingly well to the stage. When Marty McFly gets accidentally transported from 1985 to 1955, he has to make sure his parents fall in love before returning home. Back To The Future is playing at the Adelphi Theatre, and tickets start at £24.

Disney’s Frozen

Based on the ever-popular Disney movie, Frozen follows the same story of Anna and Elsa as the latter tries to navigate her frosty powers. It’s the perfect play for families, with the magic brought out from the screen into the real world. Frozen is playing at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, and tickets start at £29.50.

The Lion King



Disney’s The Lion King is a childhood favourite for many, and the West End play brings it to life with powerful artistry and incredible vocals. The Lion King is playing at Lyceum Theatre, and tickets start at £35.

Harry Potter And The Cursed Child

Set in the Harry Potter trio’s adulthood, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child follows Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Draco’s kids as they embark on their Hogwarts journeys. After discovering a Time-Turner, Harry’s son attempts to change the past, with dire consequences. The Cursed Child is playing at the Palace Theatre, and tickets start at £15.75.

Wretched

Affectionately known as Les Mis, the long-running musical is set in 19th-century France and is based on Victor Hugo’s novel. It follows Jean Valjean as he attempts to change his life following a bout in prison, as he and the cast eventually get swept up in the French Revolution. Les Mis is playing at the Sondheim Theatre, and tickets start at £23.

Oh mama!

The first production of Mamma Mia! opened in 1999, and the film-turned-musical is still going strong today. Based on the film, it follows Sophie as she invites three men she believes to be her father to her wedding, without her mother’s knowledge. Mamma Mia! is playing at the Novello Theatre, and tickets start at £15.

Six



Little is known about Henry VIII’s wives, but Six changes that. His six wives take to the stage to tell their stories: divorced, beheaded, live. Six is playing at the Vaudeville Theatre, and tickets start at £32.

The Book Of Mormon

Beloved musical comedy The Book of Mormon follows two missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as they attempt to preach to a Ugandan village. The Book of Mormon is playing at the Prince of Wales Theatre, and tickets start at £23.

The Phantom Of The Opera



Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom Of The Opera is one of the most successful musicals of all time. It tells the tale of the Phantom, who hides beneath the Paris Opera House. Ashamed of his appearance and feared by the public, he seeks to control the Opera House. When he finds an orphaned chorus girl, he trains her to sing his music. The Phantom Of The Opera is playing at His Majesty’s Theatre, and tickets start at £28.

Tina

The Tina Turner musical follows the musical legend from her youth as Anna Mae Bullock in Nutbush Tennessee to her life as Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll. The musical is an ode to her life, her struggles, and her hit songs. Tina is playing at the Aldwych Theatre, and tickets start at £20.
